Girlfriends are over rated.
The people that voted 400+ are downloading their girlfriends.

This borders on useful! Hasn't Comcast said that the abusers are in the "Top 1%?"
The sample base is too small and the audience does not have diverse demographics. This is not statistically significant.

Actually, not. The survey is hardly a good example of Comcast subscribers. I suspect that espaeth See Profile's estimate that the survey is skewed toward the cable power users is more likely.

Somehow I doubt the BBR audience is a good representative cross-section of Comcast's 10+ million subs. Judging by the number of abuse complaint threads here, the top 10-20% of users seems to be unusually well represented.

I don't know 23 ( 7.0%)

under 10GB 37 (11.3%)
10-20GB 34 (10.4%)
20-50GB 47 (14.4%)
50-100GB 52 (15.9%)

100-150GB 35 (10.7%)
150-200GB 25 ( 7.6%)
200-250GB 16 ( 4.9%)
250-300GB 14 ( 4.2%)
300-350GB 8 ( 2.4%)
350-400GB 4 ( 1.2%)

over 400GB 31 ( 9.5%)

Removing the "I don't know" responses skews the numbers, but it still looks like 400GB or so is around the 90th percentile. Someone who is good in stats would have to tell me if that suggests that the 99th percentile is far off in the distance or something closer to 450 GB.

100 single-layer DVDs a month. That's a lot of downloading.

MAC address filtering is trivial. The MAC address is in clear text in 802.11 frames. Wait long enough, and you'll find a valid MAC. I don't bother with MAC filtering or disabling SSID broadcast. I just use WPA2 with a randomly generated 64-bit hex key, which I rotate every so often

Well Comcast told me I used 760gig last month. I am totally baffled by this. I mac address filtering on the router. I am suspecting it time to use a WEP type security as well. I can not see myself using 760gig in a month at all.

Does anyone have a suggestion on a router with gigabit switch hub and pretty good wireless setup?
WEP is weak... Use WPA, WPA2. MAC addy filtering can also be cracked if the one is determined.

I posted here because it was front page news. But I did NOT vote in the poll as I have Road Runner and I understood the poll to be for Comcast users only.

As posted on the main news page, it sounded like it was asking overall ISP usage...

Are some of you on different isps? I feel like this poll is flawed... Seeing how its in a comcast forum should be comcast users doing this poll. 30 people downloading over 400 gigs on comcast?! *sigh*

DU Meter Totals by Month
My average as recorded by DU Meter is somewhat inflated because this, my primary PC, is on a LAN and DU Meter also counts that traffic as well from what I've observed. My vote is cast nonetheless.

I use 250-300GB per month on all 4 of my families PC's. I use Newsgroups and torrents to a very large extent on both my primary PC and my laptop. My sister uses relatively little bandwidth but I recently introduced her to Bittorrent so that will all change very quickly and my parents PC is downloading files from Emule 24/7.

My Bandwidth monitor says I download about 120gb per month. While this past month comcast security contacted me about excessive usage of 485GB!! Then I looked on my router logs... seems like unauthorized entry into my wireless network..

Teach me to use WEP.. Time for WPA-AES.

"Did you ever see that bud light commercial where the guy is stranded alone on the island and he is granted 2 things first he imagines 2 wifes both nag him to death. Then he realizes like beer and a grill is all you really need."

No but it probably appeals to anyone that uses more than 50 Gb a month.
