Please recommend other good isps that can offer atleast 3mbps for $30/month. Tekksaavy is going to charge 40$ from january.
You're kidding, right? Bell now charges $48/month for 30GB cap and daily throttling and you're bitching about $30/month for 200GB and no throttling?

If that's not good enough then go to canadianisp.com and see if you can find something better. (Hint: Good Luck. You're going to need a lot of it.)

You think $40 is BAD to get UNLIMITED???
Well if you download LESS than 200 GB/month pick premium it's still $30 as of Jan..
Either way, I don't think $40 is too much to ask for UNLIMITED Service..

I too live in the Toronto area and my BT is getting throttled as well and also the normal http downloads. This is getting ridiculous..My contract is going to end soon. Please recommend other good isps that can offer atleast 3mbps for $30/month. Tekksaavy is going to charge 40$ from january.

I got throttled tonight and it hampered my Voip, YouTube usage, and web browsing. Voip usage was very choppy and messy, sometimes calls even cut out. YouTube vids would load, but I could not watch them. They played for a second or two then would stop. Then regular web browsing was slow. It let up around 11pm or so. And only occured once I turned some torrents on. Pretty annoying.

I noticed that cap is the last month too. No matter how many torrents I'm running the max is 30KiBs. Weird thing was a got a email a month and half ago with Bell saying 7mbs and unlimited bandwidth. That's when I was getting 400KiBs it's just until recently I noticed the CAP. This might be my last straw with them. I don't get more than 5 mbs in everything else. Where is the 7mbs and the unlimited downloads? Anyone suggest a good alternative to bell in toronto?

I have the same issues - throttling at 30K/s. I've been battling it for the last couple of days trying to find ways around it. One way that seems to work for me in Ottawa is using a free proxy like this:

it takes a little bit of setting up, but azureus works nicely with it, and after about 10 minutes of it establishing network connections, it is giving me download speeds over 100K/s again... not quite the 500K/s I was getting, but better than 30K/s anyway... I'd be interested to see if other people have used the onion network (tor) and had similar luck.

I came to this forum looking for an explanation as to why torrents wont download faster than 25kB/s on Bell. It's been happening for around 2 weeks or so.

I've been downloading the same popular torrents every week for years. Usually with a few popular downloads going it's easy to max out around 300kB/s. So it's clear to me the difference.

I noticed someone on this thread said to turn on encryption and that the download cap would increase to around 130kB/s. I just did that and now a few minutes later I'm downloading at 156kB/s.

Something is definitely going on. I'm considering switching.

BTW, I'm in the Hamilton area.

two words -Bell Sucks...

If I wasn't stupid and took one of the stupid contracts I would have left a year ago... lucky for me I have been using a teksavvy login for at least a year know when I heard them say 30 or 60 gig/month caps... I am seriously considering paying the hundred bucks and telling them to shove their crappy internet were th sun don't shine...

thanks for letting me vent... gotta go call bell and tell them off!!

I'm in the saame time zone as you, EST. I live in Oakville, just south of Toronto. I used to have lag in gaming after they implemented the cap, but i got my line lowered from a 5mbps to a 4mbps which stopped my games from trying to fix errors that weren't there, hence the bandwidth being used in the background. Plus with the line being lowered, I haven't experienced any loss in download speed, and it rarely crashes now.

If anyone wants to check their line, go to »www.speedtest.net/ and take the test. To calculate your max download speed from your line, use the equation (x)mbps ÷ 8 = max speed. Hence 7mbps ÷ 8 = 875kb/s. Remember though that you'll probably never get your full 7mbps, but that's what the speedtest site is for

Well, right now, I don't have any throttling on my line. I tested my download with a Ubuntu distro by torrent and my connection was steady at 700k - 800k.

I went from 450kB/s to 56kB/s at 4:50pm, now at 7:19 i notice i'm at about 28kB/s.

The stupid thing is that in addition to capping BT traffic, they are including VoIP in the BT catagory. When they eiter cap it at 60 or 30, i can't make a phone call with Primus VoIP. the calls are fragmented or 1 sided.

For some odd reason i thought calling BS tech support and asking if they are are indeed throttling certain types of traffic based on application layer. Of course the douche had no idea what i was talking about, nor give me any answers. After explaining that i'm going to cancel my service on monday, he actualy tried to sell me on the "Laptop" deal that they push on people.

I'm so angry with BS for instituting these changes without notification.

TekkSavvy, get ready for an in-rush of customers!

Anyone having problems getting a torrent to connect to certain tracker sites after loading it into their client?

I tried searching on the web, and pretty much seems that either my ISP has banned certain addresses (though I can still visit them in my browser), or I can only connect to UDP servers? I'm able to connect only when DHT is available.

They are doing the same thing telecommunications company has been doing for along time.During the peak out charge regular customer more so business can function.I think internet infrastructure needs serious investing.

i dont know where you are homerific but in the quebec time zone is was the same thing. from 6pm to 1am tonight. usually its 2 am.and i agree with you on the part of switching isp,but they gonna have to stop saying unlimited and show the true color of their offers.to ban p2p,that i dont think it could happen to many application with p2p involved.i suspected their is a little of p2p exchange when you play online since you have to send and receive info at the same time, but dont take my word for cash,i know little about that subject.but i still experience some lag during peak hours ,even if i called bs about it.(i had no others thing running on my connection)
