[HN7000S] Can someone please help me?

I have a small business plan and due to a lightning strike the tech just finished changing my modem from the DW7000 to the HN7000S and also re-sited my dish from 99W to 74W. The best signal strength he could get was 65. I did a couple of speed tests and am getting an average of 1025 down and 225 up. I was getting 1470 down and 475 up before the strike. The tech left the ticket open so he could return if I wasn't satisfied, which I am not.

I did a 24 hour Problem History report and got all X's in the Downlink column and also in the LAN column. I then clicked on one of the X's and got the following report. When I called the tech and told him of these results he said he didn't know what any of that meant and wanted to know where I got the report.

Not sure what action to take to get these problems resolved and to be quite honest not sure even what any of this means. Am hoping someone here can shed some light on this for me.

Thank you,

tolut (AKA) Tom

Just for reference, I just had a SO system installed recently. I'm also on 74W and the best signal strength the installer could get was around 60. My speed test results are about the same as your current speed tests.

cdrcrkmo, just out of curiosity when you to
»192.168.0.1/fs/advanced/advanced.html and click on diagnostics and then on hourly report do you get a bunch of X's in the report??

Thanks,

Hi,
In regards to your Signal strength, I would like to add that
it hardly matters what signal strenght or SQF (Signal Quality Factor) you're getting. It would only come into picture just in case if the weather is bad.

Further, for different Satellite/Xponders, the Minimum SQF for different ZIP Codes will be diff. For Certain areas it will be 37, or 47, 51, 52, 63, etc. What matters is the margin between Minimum SQF & your actual Signal Strenght.
For e.g. if the Minimum signal strength for your ZIP Code is lets say 37 & if you are getting 54, it's still quite handsome enough. However, if the Min.SQF for your ZIP code is lets' say 52 & if you're getting 59-60, then you may need to worry little bit as if the weather goes bad, then the Signal wud drop & hence increase your chances of loosing the Connection. Hence, a SQF of 60-65 should not bother you too much.

Regards,
Adam

how can you find out the SQF for a certain zip code , 39402 for example . And to tolut my question for you would be why did the tech resite you on a different bird ? If you already had the small office plan and just needed repairs why the move ? I would call and complain and get back on your original bird and transponder . I know here where I live a 68 signal falls flat on its face to a 15 signal with a little rain shower . I'm hoping this .98 dish I installed today will help rain fade but I do wanna know what my SQF is . thanks

Hi MonstaDriva,

Not sure why the change from 99W to 74W other than when the tech called Hughes and told them that the only Modem he had on the truck was the HN7000S then they told him that he needed to resit the dish. I just guessed it had something to do with the different modem. I had a DW7000 before.

When I recently had my .74 m dish replaced with a .98 m dish and changed service plans, when the installer came out, Hughes had me assigned to G17 (74 W). I ended up elsewhere because of line-of-sight problems, but the installer told me that he had been doing quite a few installations to 74 W and that, generally, the best he could get in terms of signal strength was in the mid-60s, which made me happy that I ended up on a satellite where he could get me into the 90s. While this doesn't explain your red x's or your slower speeds, it would not seem that the lower receive signal level is the result of poor pointing.

Hi techguy_adam

This is a ski resort and we get on average 270+ inches of snow for the season. With the 92 signal strength I had last year the system was only down 3 or 4 times and then for only about 5 or 10 minutes. I am afraid that the 65 I am getting now will destroy me this winter.

Thanks,

tolut aka Tom

How do you obtain the info for the zip code factor?

Hi LesZ

Where, if I may ask, did they move you to?

Also have you ever done the diagnostic and hourly report test on »192.168.0.1/fs/advanced/advanced.html ?? and if so what kind of results did you get?

Thanks,

tolut aka Tom

Sorry, I was away for a spell. No, I do not get a "bunch" of red x's. Just checked it and I have 4-5 rx errors, a couple of tx errors - most all in the past 3-4 hours. I have seen a lot worse history reports.

I'm on G26 (formerly IA6), which is where I was previously when I had the .74 m dish.

And, no, I have done the diagnostic test. When I check the hourly diagnostics page, it is very rare for me to see any red x's. I may see one or two per week. It may not even be that many.

Thanks cdrcrkmo and LesZ

That is what I was afraid you were going to say. I have maybe 2 or 3 green checks for the Lan and the Downlink and all the rest are big Red X's. Wonder if the trouble could be with the Modem?
I have all green checks for the antenna pointing.

I learned a long time ago that if the install has a signal over 63 & will pass ACP with atleast a 70, you will very likely do just fine with a .98 dish.
If the best I can do is a 47-48 signal with a 60 ACP, is where you will have grief in bad weather.
(example; H1 @127 in Arizona)

As far as your speeds, it sounds like maybe when they moved your account to your new bird, they put you on a Small Office plan.
Your speeds are on the money for the real world SO plan.

What is the ratio of failed transmissions to successful?
(on the system control panel page)

You are a Business class customer, you should be talking to the support crew in Florida - I can't believe they could not decipher your diagnostic report & red Xs.
Give them a call again.
