There seems to be some panic about "OMFG! There's an entry in the registry that nobody uses. Aieee!".
Very true @"what is 'broken' about it".

What bothers me about all this is that even "mature" applications still write "garbage" to the registry.

Sigh.

Isn't it better to run that program that looks for bad install items (malware etc) (hijack log)??? and then tackle those problems?

In other words, cleaning a registry for neatness sake seems to be more dangerous than its worth, compared to lets say compacting the hard drive and plain ole deleting old files and removing old and unused software.
