[Hardware] Help with MTU, Belkin Router, Xbox Live ...

Hi, everyone.

I recently got an Xbox 360, and now I wish to connect to the Xbox Live service. I have cable internet through Suddenlink; a Linksys modem and a Belkin router. Neither are listed as "incompatible" with Xbox Live on the Microsoft site. When I try to connect to Xbox Live, an error occurs with the MTU settings. Apparently, it is not high enough. I have tried changing it to 1500 with DrTCP and checked out some tests at DSLreports.com, as well as trying to change it at my router configuration page (no option to do so). When I manually change it with Dr. TCP, I do not think it takes effect...I have restarted my computer after changing it to 1500, but still cannot connect to Xbox Live. I still get the error at the MTU section. I have called Belkin's tech support but I don't think they understand my problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated -- thanks!

Why are you using Dr TCP? IS your Xbox connected to your computer? If the 360 is not connected to your computer than the computer has nothing to do with it. Plug 360 directly into the modem and try it. If it works, plug the 360 into the router? If it doesn't work, router MTU needs adjusted. If modem and router MTU's are correct then it's an MTU problem in a part of the network you have no control over.

What model is your Belkin Router?

Check MTU in the system blade of the 360. I believe there is a setting.

Also check the XBOX live forums for alot of info on MTU issues
