My brother is looking for a new laptop that he can do basic computing and internet browsing as well as be able to sit and listen to music and watch dvd's when needed and what not so dont need powerful machine but want a good solid fast machine
in the $500 - $700 range

You should be able to go to dell and have them build you a nice system for 500-700 some even have hypermemory or TurboCache video cards. |

I just purchase an Acer from Circuit City, it was $479.99 ($250 off the regular price); 1 gig RAM 160 gig HD, etc.
