| reply to Jason Levine Since they are posting their code on my computer via their website, I believe they are trying to Entrap me and I should sue them for posting code they don't want me to see.
That's like printing a Top Secret document in the news paper and stating "don't read this" as the last sentence |

Regardless someone could upload a file and send the link to others who would have a day to download it; I think the RIAA could make a case. I see now that this "Example Zope Program" was only discovered today, and they have no idea, at the moment, how much of a hole they have in their own system. People are posting several types of illegal materials on their site, and they deserve it. -- Here to help all those in need, whenever I can. |

Edit: I strongly recommend you don't look through those files, specifically the JPG's. They don't look to be of age. |

1 edit | reply to Jason Levine Best thing to happen to their site would be for it to get Slashdotted.
Now I'm not necessarily advocating DDoS here, even though if that were to happen, there's a good bet their servers would get flooded with traffic from curious visitors.
I'd also Digg this one as well.
Edit: looks like someone has posted it there as well (linked to Techdirt): »yro.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=···/2123233 -- "The trouble with computers, of course, is that they are very sophisticated idiots." - Doctor Who (from Robot)

| reply to Jon I can see how some code can be copyrighted. For example, if I code a "Levine Javascript Library", then it would be copyrighted by me. I could request that anyone who used it retain a copyright notice notifying people that I made it. I might be able to go after someone who took it and tried to pass it off as their own work. However, I couldn't be able to claim that you couldn't view the source code without my permission. Especially not when the code gets loaded into the browser is such a readable form. |

You don't copyright individual small pieces, but larger chunks that are unique to what you are trying to do. For instance, I cannot copyright "like any code", but I can copyright this entire paragraph. In fact, the act of writing this causes it to be copyrighted (but not registered). But you're talking about what's in between the tags right. That I understand. I guess if you consider the entire paragraph "part of the code"... Maybe that's what I'm not understanding. Just seems to be an awfully big net they're casting. |

Used all bogus information about myself, of course. At least it takes someone to look at it and hit "delete". If they get enough, maybe they'll think again about their stupid TOS. |
