yeah it seems like the routing has changed and some newsservers dont like the new routing. |

@wideopenwest.com | reply to pargoff For the past 7-10 days my usenet speeds are at a total crawl and I am not a power user by any means. |

| reply to pargoff Like John, I use Astraweb as well and my downloads lately have been total crap. I tried different ports, same result. Speeds are hit and miss and are usually in the toilet the entire transfer. I'm going to call WOW or email them and see what's up. I know it's a WOW problem because I called my friend on the other side of Columbus with TWC/RR and his Astraweb transfers max out his connection and he's been having no problems getting full speed out of Astraweb. |

| reply to pargoff said by pargoff :no idea but i have been using powerusenet for almost a month and this just started happening. this is garbage. From your response, what I suggested didn't work. Did you sign up for the "secure" account with powerusenet? If not try upgrading and use SSL on ports 443 or 563. You can reconfigure you existing newsreader if it supports SSL or install an add-on if it doesn't.

This has been going on for a couple of years at least. I'm surprised more users don't complain. I'm not sure what you're talking about, but WOW has never throttled Usenet. I get max download speeds from my Usenet provider all the time, and it doesn't matter what pipe I may be connected through. No problems here. |

| reply to pargoff said by pargoff :yes, of course. everything was working fine...i was pegging my connection, until two days ago. Same here. I use Grab-it and when I use Astraweb, I max out my 6 meg service with 8 connections going. When I tried switching to WOW/Giganews, it dropped to about 50K/sec with 4 connections at once. Maybe it's a Giganews problem? |

| reply to pargoff said by pargoff :can i spoof any MAC address i want in my router? Sure, just remember that only hex is allowed.(0-F) The first three octets indicate the manufacturer.
00-60-97-xx-xx-xx would be a 3com part and 00-C0-F9-xx-xx-xx would be Motorola for example.
It might be necessary to reboot your modem along with your router after making the change. WOW allows three IP addresses per account and the MAC addresses associated with those IP's is stored in the modem.
Good luck. |
