Benjie

@comcast.net

So because some random spammer sent you a letter which basically he/she must be spreading to hundreds others that Means the Ron PAUL campaign is doing it? So if rudy GUiliani, mitt romney HIllary clinton or any other candidates name is on a letter forwarded to you does that mean the official campaign of that person is responsible? Hm.. if thats a yes for you than i guess I will have to imitate this same action with every other candidates official name or website info and send it to you and lets see if I or Hillary clinton's campaign would be responsible..lol dude your ridiculous..lmao i though we invented spam block on emails for a reason

Hey Benjie, know what's truly ridiculous? The amount of Ron Paul crap we've been hit with on usenet, social sites, etc. so no, it wouldn't surprise me to see them resort to spamming.

While I agree, I think what we are seeing is overzealous grass-roots Ron Paul advocates trying to "spread the word". I doubt that spamming people is sanctioned or encourage by the official campaign office. I wouldn't know, and I'm not really inclined to dig into it. I've had enough Ron Paul to last me a lifetime, and enough of his fans and detractors to go with it.

This is just SABOTAGE, plain and simple.

Nobody is this damned stupid to think that spam emails are an effective or acceptible way of promoting a national presidential campaign, especially at a time when the campaign is making its greatest inroads legitimately!!!

It's an old tactic, it's tired, and sadly, it will probably be effective on some people who don't have the mental capacity to see through it. Take some of the respondants to this article already, who rush to judgment without really thinking about this in depth.

The most important thing to ask oneself when wanting to work out who is behind any action is: who benefits? Who stands to gain from sending out Ron Paul spam? Any person with half a brain will know that this only hurts Ron Paul, and no supporter I have ever met personally is this unintelligent to think it's a good idea to send out actual email spam.

Sure, as Paul supporters we have grown used to be accused of 'spamming' polls, both online and text polls (even those in which voters are restricted to one vote), so it comes as no surprise that this tactic is being used to somehow discredit Ron Paul.

We can't help it if the other candidates' supporters are too lazy to keep up with our activism. We can't help it if we're still the only presidential signs in neighborhood yards in states with late primaries, or that we're the only ones standing on roadsides holding signs for a man we think is America's last best hope for a true return to Constitutional government in Washington. But all of these things should stand as good evidence why we wouldn't want to sabotage our own candidate by breaking the law and pissing people off by sending out spam email. It just doesn't add up, and I hope more of you wake up and realize that.

I suspect you too are rushing to judgement in declaring it sabotage.

You might be right. Then again, somebody might have arranged for some email marketing without realizing that they were dealing with a spammer. It happens.

It will probably have negligible effects on the Ron Paul campaign.

And no, I'm not a member of the Ron Paul fan club.

Want to ease my mind that it's not Ron Paul behind it? Have him condone it publicly and say I want no part of it, Bush couldn't do it with the Swift Vets and so far Paul hasn't said anything other than a denial. To me that speaks many volumes over what his supporters throw out.
