Purchased from Best Buy - who apparently are the only shop in town that carries this particular model. Love at first sight.

HP dv2660 (Verve) Pavilion Notebook PC

»h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/gene···002_USEN

It's got a bronze-on-black design, very attractive looking.

Quick and dirty:

Core 2 Duo 1.5GHz
2GB RAM
250GB HDD
Wireless media remote with storage bay
CD/DVD Burner with Lightscribe
MS/SD/MMC/XD card reader
Touch media controls on the laptop
a/b/g Internal WiFi receiver

Cost me $1100 all said and done. Perfect for a user like myself that runs multiple apps at all times. Can handle games with some exceptions. I don't play PC games so I'm fine with what I've got.

been piecing this together for a few months and finally got the CPU/mobo. motherboard and ram are temporary while the next chipsets come out and mature. also waiting for DDR3 to drop in price a little. i'm disappointed that the 780i will be DDR2-only. x1800XT is also temp while i wait for the newest cards around $300 from both companies to come out.

ADDED C2Q 6700 @ stock
ADDED Intel DG33TL media board
ADDED 2x1GB G.Skill el cheapo DDR2800
ADDED PC Power and Cooling Silencer 750 Quad (SLI version)
ADDED Antec Nine Hundred Case w/ yate Loon fans replacing the antecs
ADDED Thermalrite Ultra 120 (non extreme...$15 for 1C = no thanks) w/ med speed Yate Loon
ADDED Vista Ult 32bit but may go back to or dual-boot with XP x64

74GB Raptor
500GB WD 16MB cache
x1800XT 256MB (temporary)
X-Fi Fatality Pro Champion (w/ drive bay) having major issues with mobo or vista

eVGA 680i SLI board, RAID, HD 7.1 audio, dual giga Ethernet
Intel E6850 Core 2 Duo 3.0 Ghz with stock cooler
Corsair memory, 2 Gb PC2-6400 DDR2-800 CL
XFX 8800GT video
Western Digital 500Gb SATA-II NCQ HDD
Pioneer DVR-108D DL DVD burner (from previous computer)
Etasis 750W PSU
Thermaltake Soprano DX case
Windows XP Pro (retail license transfer from previous computer)

While waiting for the parts, I slipstreamed XP SP2 and used nLite to preload the motherboard drivers and burned a new install CD. This made the XP install an easy one-step procedure -- I was really surprised at how smoothly that went.

Running great, surprisingly quiet with the big case fans (120 and 140mm). PSU has 80mm fan but seems low RPM so that's quiet too. Loudest part is the video card. CPU cores running surprisingly cool with the stock HSF (around 45°C). Installed the optional heatsink fan for the 680i chipset.
