Euh...

We need gurus to teach us wiring as a science, DSL
makes a thing which seemed initially simple behave
in a most complex and puzzling manner so maybe the
insoluble problems of today could be solved issues
tomorrow.  What counts until then is to get clues.

What if it's AM radio interference which shielding
will reduce sufficiently, no one ever explained to
me how this could be achieved nor what it would do
to my error rate and yet i was here 3 years ago...

I don't think there will be any clue if your line comes aerial. You can't shield it up to the RCO....
But you can reduce the interference inside your home using "ferrite" sorry i'ts French name. I had big problems 7 years ago when starting ADSL. My Rig (200 Watts) caused the modem to reboot when using the 1.6 Mhz band, so I was to close of the ADSL frequencies to put a filter.
I tried to used some ferrite coils one the POTS line close to the modem. Then the modem power supply too and the problem has been solved for a part. You need a short and good ground in copper.

Hi,

As you can imagine, i'd have installed a few large
toroïd cores on the wiring next to my MoDem before
considering to pass the line through grounded iron
tubes and/or metal sleeves.  It's unclear where to
get fancy electronic parts these days, perhaps the
automobile industry has what i need under the form
of a sub-woofer inductor but this is a wild guess;
maybe i just need to disassemble some of a few old
monitors which i've stacked in a corner, they were
built to last so i suppose such quality components
might be waiting for me inside.  Québec happens to
be a de-industrialized zone, the population around
here has to be creative!...  In any case, if radio
construction is required after two kilometers then
i expect manufacturers to implement it themselves!

In the meantime, i'll search what i can recycle as
i doubt The Source (Radio-Shack) still carries the
kind of HardWare you showed us on the photographs.

If only a helicoïdal notch filter could work here,
euh...  Ground?  Can you explain how to use it?...
I shielded whatever could be so the next step will
be to put the SpeedTouch inside some metal casing,
which i'm not even certain would cure the kitchen-
generated noise since i don't know how it's acting
to begin with.  Franchement, vive la twisted pair!

I think Radio Shack still have these sort of goodies..
But don't buy Tores for VHF ore higher. They won't work.
Well, I suppose, not sure, that the metal case of the 546 is grounded somewhere to the negative point of the power supply.??
If not, the case does shield nothing. When I speak about good copper wire, I was referring to Amateur Radio (mine F2zv since 1961), when using power rigs and long antennas close to the aerial telephone lines. (Stationery waves).

I will be back tomorrow morning. It's time for dinner and can't come back later.
Have a nice day

Hi Bicephale,

Your profile doesn't say where you are located in Quebec, but if you are close to either Ottawa or Montreal, you could get those "ferrite" parts (and a full complement of electronic parts) at Active stores. See link included »www.active123.com/b2c/redirect.c···2RN2-R62

They also have other "ferrites" parts. Just enter "ferrite" in their search engine.
