Motorola SB5100 Error Message...

Hello all,

just one question about our Modem (model number/manufacturer at bottom of post):

Q: does a Motorola modem try to get BPI+ continuously from Comcast, even if it already has BPI successfully enabled?

It's not a bad thing if your modem has an error and can't get BPI+, is it? If so, is it resolvable?

my friend lives in the city next to ours, has Comcast cable/HSI (as we do), and he does not have this, "Map Reject - Downstream Traffic Flow Not Mapped to BPI+ SAID (EC=8)" error in his modem log.

It may be caused by a "Network Issue" that we are having, and Comcast is investigating that Network Issue (more or less - but not what that error means, as I'm not sure it relates to the Network Issues we're having outside on the pole). I was just curious if this modem error would have anything to do with repeated internet disconnects, privacy issues, or/and, just to get everyone's input on what they believe this message means. Nothing to stress out on, but I was just curious because we've had these Network Issues with our cable and Comcast has been in our area for the last few years, and I don't remember seeing this message before.

I have a Motorola SB5100, and my friend has a Motorola SB5120, so there isn't much difference in the two, except for the SB5120 seems to spit out a lot more stuff into the log, which shouldn't make a difference into whether you see the error message or not (we have the modem with the error log that doesn't spit out as much crap, and I am the one that has that error message.

Thanks!

Let's see what happens with this error after your other serious plant issues get resolved....

ah, does make sense.

will i need to make a new post once my "plant issues" get resolved? (assuming that's an amount of time upwards of two weeks to get the whole thing resolved and for me to check my modem log again)

in other words, how long do forum posts remain on the website before they are trashed? after a certain time period of inactivity? is there a "solved" button that i can push to tell the mod that the issue has been resolved (or not push to tell the mod that i am waiting for something else to happen - say a specific answer from someone or a response from my cable company) or is that just for the apple support forums (and possibly others)?

Also...

you're saying that the Plant Issues may be related directly to that error message? if it's not confidential, what would be an example of a "plant issue" and... what's the technical definition of a "plant issue"?

finally, on what scale is the "Plant"? City-wide? State-wide? Regional?

does a regular comcast technician (not contractor) have the power (if s/he thinks it is needed) to have Network/Maintenance trucks come out to your residence on a 1st visit (1st time visit for them - long record of previous visits on the account) to fix a Pole/Plant related problem?

thanks!
