| [TWC] RoadRunner Email issue - 550 Relay problem
Hello
I am at my wits end with this. This started with a friend down the street who is a former Adelphia customer. He can send email from Outlook Express to @roadrunner.com; he cannot send email to any other address (@yahoo.com, @gmail.com, etc). And I mean none.. Ive worked with RR tech support on three different phone calls. The second tech told me that his Outlook Express was corrupt and would need to be reinstalled. So we installed Outlook 2003 from scratch, and the tech walked me through setting it up step by step [Im not an Outlook guy, we use Lotus.. so just to be sure I let the tech walk me through it]. Same problem.. anything outside of @roadrunner.com gets the following error:
"The message could not be sent because one of the recipients was rejected by the server. The rejected e-mail address was 'xxxxx@gmail.com'. Subject 'Again', Account: 'RoadRunner', Server: 'smtp-server.roadrunner.com', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '550 relaying mail to gmail.com is not allowed', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 550, Error Number: 0x800CCC79"
Now, the last tech I spoke with tonight had me try the RR webmail, it works fine. The tech proceeded to tell me that the problem is outlook (yeah right)...
Note: I do not use my RoadRunner email account, and have not done so since they took over Adelphia; i did the migration to the Roadrunner but I prefer to use Gmail. Anyway, I came home and fired up my Outlook.. it downloads the messages I had from the RoadRunner email server. However, when I try and send an email to anything outside of @roadrunner.com it fails just like my friends email.
Here are the settings that are in my outlook: *Servers Tab* Incoming: pop-server.roadrunner.com Outgoing: smtp-server.roadrunner.com Account name: accountname in lowercase no @roadrunner.com Password: correct password that works in webmail.. Log on using Secure Password Auth is Unchecked My Server requires authentication Unchecked
*Advanced Tab* Smtp port: 25 / SSL unchecked Pop3 port: 110 / SSL unchecked Serer Timeout: 1 Minute The rest of that page unchecked
Now, here is what is odd with the Webmail.. When I send a web mail message to my Gmail account it shows up as coming from MyUserName@adelphia.net... Same thing for my friend, HisName@adelphia.net.
I think this is a server problem that is effecting old adelphia customers in my area... Anyone got anything I can try to fix this problem? Because Time Warner is not helping or listening...
Thanks in advance ! |

| The error message you are seeing reflects that you are not connected to the Road Runner network. I had a gentleman call me last week about this very same issue. He had connected by mistake to his neighbors Wi-Fi (which is a DSL connection, off TW network) and therefore when he went to send mail to anyone but a road runner address, it gave this message. Once we disconnected from the neighbors Wi-Fi and connected to his own, it worked like a champ.
Double check where you are connected for one, see where your IP address is resolving to. If it isnt road runner, you have your answer. -- BlockNews.Net- Quality Usenet Block And Unlimited Accounts |

| reply to kolten Disregard @adelphia.net that is not causing the problem. Go to this site, »www.whatismyip.com . Please report what it shows for an ip address. It sounds like you aren't on the RR network or you have an IP that is not in the acls for the smtp server. |

| Oh yeah this is alot of fun.
Im getting the same run around that I was at my buddies house. Even after explaining the situation.
They had me resetup Outlook again.. And when it didnt work the lady said "you need to either call the maker of your PC for help or you can contact Microsoft for outlook help, its not a problem with RoadRunner..
I asked her to escalate the issue and she put me back on hold again for the third time... I wholely expect that she will come back and say its not a RoadRunner problem again.. |

| I am assuming your return to Field says xxxxx@roadrunner.com I had the same issue. I can't use the roadrunner servers. I have to use the @adelphia.com return address, and connect through mail.adelphia.net servers. They totally screwed the pooch on the migration, and have been unable to fix it, or even find out what is wrong. I gave up trying. |

Both mail.roadrunner.com and mail.adelphia.net resolve to the same address as they are both the same servers.

Hob I know... makes no sense whatsoever. But if I go the roadrunner route, it asks for autentication every time, and works one out of 5 times. Works every time if I go the adelphia route. Like I said, gave up trying to figure it out. |

| reply to kolten Well after going through three levels of tech support. I spoke with the NOC a guy named Seth.
Kudos to him for being the only person that listened to me. For any of you in former Adelphia land here are the correct settings (they changed in the last two weeks). Incoming (pop): pop-server.roadrunner.com Outgoing (STMP): smtp-server.sc.rr.com
The final guy I spoke with spend nearly an hour on the phone with me and working with his peers to figure out the issue. He thought it was an Outlook problem to begin off just like the other tech support. However, once I told him that a buddy down the street was getting the same problem he started listening.
So I hope this saves someone the multiple horrible hours on the phone with RR Support that I had to go through to get this. |

Turned out that the Yahoo POP settings (port number) had changed. Not even close to the same issue. Downloading email isn't the same as sending email. The original problem was that Road Runner failed to communicate the correct SMTP server names for their migrated Adelphia users to use in Southern California; for sending email.
Your issue is with attempting to download email from Yahoo! Web mail servers using a web-to-POP proxy. -- Norman ~Oh Lord, why have you come ~To Konnyu, with the Lion and the Drum |

This is true for former Adelphia across the country. (unless you actually moved to a legacy TW area) |

(unless you actually moved to a legacy TW area) I don't know, I tried the smtp-server.sc.rr.com outgoing, and it has yet to ask me to re-enter my PW every 10 mins. Now if I can just get WebMail to stop calling me "me"@adelphia.net..........
I think they screwed the pooch on my migration a while back. I couldn't maintain my username for some assanine reason. But strangely enough, I set up a sub account with my old username, and it works just fine, so it obviously wasn't an existing account. Albeit "me"@adelphia.net" (according to webmail). |
