| Re: MagicJack in Trouble? Forum is locked down Just received this email from Magicjack:
"As most of you know,we are changing a number of things,to make it easier for potential customers to buy a magicJack and to support our existing loyal base.
We have now made chat a one on one experience.
We are changing the Forum for technical problem solving only.Potential customers can now receive the proper care they need at Sales chat.
The forum is just too unwieldy now and we will be hiring a professional monitor soon in addition to our very helpful volunteers.
Most subjects do not apply anymore,as the service has changed dramtically since we started this forum.
I encourage everybody to keep the forum updated with relevant topics and make this into a place where people in need can get the proper help.
We will be much more rewarding of giving out Beta Jacks for our loyal posters and readers to help one another.
The forum will also be changed dramatically again post BETA and there will be a major surprise enhancement in the February timeframe.
Please send any comments to me at Dan.Borislow@magicjack.com.I have scoured the forum for good ideas and enhancements and we hear you. Please send them directly to me as well.
Thank You
Your Inventor
Dan" | |

| Hi all I'm AlaninKY in the magicJack Forum. I'm disappointed everything was wiped away because there were some good threads worth keeping. Just wiping everything away is over kill in my opinion.
I love my three magicJacks. When all the bugs are worked out, I believe the Company can be a huge success.
I believe MagicHack has done a great job of telling the magicJack staff about the security problems with magicJack. Hopefully his help will make magicJack secure and a great product. -- low cost and fast speed is what customers want in broadband

Brain dead. really.
The lame brains at MagicJack decided to dump all the bad crap people had posted about their crappy product's flaws and problems.

| I have to agree with the other posters. There was a lot of good information available. I tend to agree that they did not want the recent comments about their poor performance as of late to be made public.
More promises of improvements, little in the way of action. I guess we should all get together here on a regular basis.

| Re: MagicJack in Trouble? Forum is locked down There is very useful information on the MJ Forum that is locked now. It is all lost for ever. I received more help from the forum than from the support. I have to get used to this new set up. May be we could use this as our new forum and continue to discuss our problems and solutions. I hope MJ as a product will continue.

| Re: MagicJack in Trouble? Forum is locked down I am willing to cut management some slack here and hope that they are culling through the mass of posts and retaining the useful stuff. It is all definitely archived, so it is not gone to the big bit bucket in the sky. It would be a shame to render it unavailable to future readers however.
Once the forum is unlocked I would expect things will proceed much as before.
Unfortunately, I am as much out of the loop as everyone else.

| I think they deleted because of all of the massive negative posts that was being left on the board. The forum was originally placed there to be a tech support for members. It was turned into a Magicjack bash board. There were very few members who didn't belittle the product and could ran off potential customers. As OldNuc said i'm pretty sure the relevant material will be brought back later on. It was just that even amidst the relevant posts, somewhere within that topic was some negative press. Problems should have been presented with only words of the problem, not bashing the company while doing it. It didn't benefit anything or anyone making magicjack seem like the worse company ever.
I agree that they didn't do a lot of things right but us Beta members should have handled it better and spoke only of the problems with our magicjacks. Lets see if things get better now and we get our forum back.

| I registered here just to add my disgust with the magicjack crew. I certainly hope that people consider "googling", like I do, before I buy a product. I like to read the good and the bad so I know what I'm getting into.
First they closed the chat so users were unable to talk with each other. I don't do chat, but a lot of people do and you do not cut off communication between the users of your product and possible buyers of the product. A one on one chat is not a chat! I can do that if I want tech support and we all know how understaffed tech support is for the device.
Next they removed the links to the chat and forum so that people considering buying the product could not read about problems before they bought the item.
But the straw that broke the camel's back was when they locked the forum and removed all the posts. I can understand locking the forum until they get more than volunteer help to manage it. Deleting all the threads where people helped each other solve problems is pathetic.
I go to several forums and I'm mod/admin at a few of these. I will be spreading the word at these forums "DO NOT PURCHASE" a magicjack. It is in beta and the owner seems very eager to eliminate any signs that the product is not ready for prime time. I suspect he wants people to buy these gizmos for the holiday season and after they buy it, discover it is flaky, in a lot of cases.
I have nothing against beta products. I do have a problem with any company trying to hide problems with a beta product. I beta tested CounterSpy and to date, that forum has not been locked not all the problems we had with v2 wiped!

| Re: MagicJack in Trouble? Forum is locked down Well, they wiped the forum but fortunately they can't wipe google's cache. Go here »64.233.169.104/search?q=cache:H8···irefox-a and start reading (the sections devoted to Device, Softphone and Phone Service). You will see the problems people are having with the device. You'll also see some of the people posting here have done a fair bit trying to help people to get the device to work, whether it was a hardware or a software problem. I did send an email to Dan Borislow, telling him the decisions he made are IMO, poor. In my experience, even when a forum changes software, or domain names, the old posts aren't erased. A forum may lock the doors so you can't post and move you elsewhere but the old posts remain so you can at least read them. I also have no problem with any mod/admin altering posts and removing spamming and flaming but every post - you have to admit that is a bit much. The fact that he erased them, indicates he is trying to sweep problems under the rug. | |

I then went to the web archive »web.archive.org/web/*/http://for···m/forum/ and I can bring up what the forum looked like on July 14, 2007 and Aug. 18, 2007 but again, if you try and read anything you find that it does not exist.
So it appears Mr. Borislow wants all traces of problems gone.

| This is the email I received from Mr. Borislow tonight. quote: The chat was changed to a one on one sales chat, and I can tell you is a lot more effective than what we used to do. The forum is not meant to be a forum for buyers, but for people who need technical help. The forum was also there for us to learn about what our Beta users wanted. We did incorporate a lot of that into the offering. We may add a sales forum after we come out of Beta. The product is about to go thru another change and most of the posts would have been bad advice. So it was either get rid of it for two months or keep it very focused. I chose the latter. We will have it opened up on Monday. Give me a call tomorrow if you would like to understand more of my reasoning. Dan
I think he should have locked the forum, kept the posts and made a general announcement on the forum so his current buyers and prospective buyers would know what is going on. I don't believe in keeping people in the dark.
No, I don't intend to call him. Obviously, his reasoning and mine are different.

| I have no problem with delays. The device depends on servers, relays...more hardware behind the scenes than I or most users know about. I do have a huge problem with any company preventing it's users from getting help and removing any information about what is going on. There isn't a beta out there that doesn't have problems...any one who has spent time on a computer knows and understands this. The people who purchased the device should not have to resort to setting up their own chat so they can get and receive help. »magicjackhacks.blogspot.com/

| I am really afraid this is going to be a repeat of SunRocket case.
Having said that, I own 2 MJ devices and use atleast one of them a lot. The service is acceptable for the money they are charging.
However, I cant just stand them deleting the threads from the forum. I suspect they are expecting good sales for ThanksGiving and Christmas, and might be afraid the negative comments on the forum might adversely affect the sales. But I call this curbing the freedom of speach. Now, I am pissed off - the forum is just going to be a Praise-Bench for the stupid MJ.
Seeing all this, I dont think I am going to renew the MJs once they expire. I'd rather go to a real phone service with real customer support and who do real business. I cant stand anymore fly-by-night operators.

| We will be sifting though the prior technical posts in the last forum and putting them back into the new one.We will most likely have two forums in the future, one dedicated to technical issues -for sure- and possibly a sales Forum.
The magicJack has evolved and been improved upon over the over the last 8 months and most of the posts simply did not apply anymore and were quite confusing for readers of the forum. We hope the new forum will be more helpful for customers with technical questions.
Their is going to be a major, very positive changes happening over the next 90 days and the service will be much different once again from how it looks today.I will say in advance, when these changes take place and in combo with coming out of BETA,the forum will change once again. At that point,it will have more of the company's attention and will be a fixture on the website.
Thanks for all your contributions, opinions on this matter and being Beta testers for us.The first large major upgrade will happen within 10 days and we have a Beta version for MAC as we speak.

Please keep the faith in your product, I truly love it! Yes, I have had some issues with my magicJack but for the price, and knowing that it was in 'beta' - I am not going to complain. Anyway...it usually 'rights' itself without me doing much of anything (not that I would know what to do, I'm not a techie ).

| Re: MagicJack in Trouble? Forum is locked down My MagicJack stopped working last night. Keeps telling me it must be installed in a USB port. Well what other kind of port could I possibly install it in? It's already in a USB port, it was working fine. I tried it this morning on two different machines, both give the same error message.
So I went to the 'live chat': Glenn: Please contact support here: Glenn: »support.magicjack.com/magicfix/magicFix.html Glenn: please go to 48 hours at the botom (sic) of the page and leave a message. they will get back to you asap
If you go to that page, on the bottom there is a link for 48 as he states, but that gives you a 404, not found link, etc.
I tried to ask the agent for a phone number, email address, or something, but after a while, he just stopped chatting with me!
So luckily I purchased this with PayPal, and I just submitted a dispute with them. They do have a phone number on PayPal, and I called that number and a man answered and told me he didn't know anything about Magicjack!
