got a question about laptop offer

I wonder if you just ordered high speed enhanced service with 1 year contract if you get upgraded to pc offer since your internet hasn't been activated yet?

Hi Skilltom .You have to be on a three year contract
to get the free Laptop

Unless they have a new offer, it's for a PC and not a laptop...

...or a $400 American express card, to put towards the purchase of a laptop..

...but I could be wrong.

Friends don't let friends sign contracts!

Do you really want to be stuck on a 3 year contract? Is the free PC really worth it? Questions you have to ask yourself.

Let me tell you right now that laptop is very low-end and even appears to be discontinued according to the Lenovo website:

Lenovo™ 3000 notebook (C200)

* Intel® Celeron® M Processor
* Windows Vista™ Home Basic
* 80 GB hard drive
* 512 MB DDR2 memory

Not to mention that this "offer" also costs $5/month extra, or $9 per month for the notebook, if I understand the Telus website correctly (it is a bit unclear if the $9 adds to the extra $5 or not). So that's 9$/month for 3 years, whereas you can get one off ebay for $300-400. Doesn't sound like much of a deal anymore does it?

Not really :P Low end laptops arent worth it. Not to mention if new prices come out...you pretty much have to sign a new contract, for even longer to get the better price. Or at least, they try to make you.

IMO, your best off buying a laptop, and not going on contract. Unless you just want a cheap laptop for Uni or something, and dont mind contract... then it's an ok deal.

I thought you couldn't get new price if you already on contract like 1year and you want to go for 2 or 3

When talking about time with internet stuff it reminds me of dog years.

You know that saying something like one dog year is like seven human years. So a dog who is 10 is like a 70 year old person.

I sort of feel when dealing with the internet you need to factor in something like that, maybe not the same ratio but a lot can happen in 3 years on the internet

Ya this quarter there is no $400 gift card. Its a pc for $5.00 extra a month or a laptop for $9/month. Not too bad

$180 over 3 years for the PC

$324 over 3 years for the Laptop

Ya they are basic units but still if not going to use it for hard core gaming they are pretty good.

I would upgrade to more memory when you order though

the laptop is 9.00+5.00 = 14.00 more per month

I believe when they came out with the new price cut, all the people who wanted the price had to sign a new contract extending their term. I wasn't interested in signing a new contract though, so I'm not sure... just what I heard on the forums.

Is that right? The way the ad is written it looks like the laptop is only $9 a month extra, and considering that it is worth about $350 it really is the funniest free gift idea ever. If it's $14 x 36 months then customers are paying Telus more than it's worth.
You can get a decent laptop for about $850, I mean a real one, not these Lenovos.

According to consumer reports Lenovo desktops are a bit lacking BUT their laptops are top notch.

the telus 'free' lenovo desktop officially comes with 512, but someone i know received a 512 expansion chip with the initial shipment. is this normal ? or did they unknowingly 'buy' it ?

The ram upgrade was originally about 75.00 it has been lowered to 55.00 for this quarter.

If they received it either they paid for it (by entering their credit card information on the order site) or they're really lucky.

Well, Jammerman is right: the additional charge is $5 x 36 months for the desktop and $14 x 36 months for the Laptop, which works out to $504. Some freebie! This is for a Lenovo 3000 C200 laptop with a Celeron processor and 512 Mb of RAM. For Vista 1Mb of RAM is a minimum, and preferably 2Mb. Upgrading the processor to at least a 1.66Ghz Core 2 Duo, which most laptops come with nowdays, and upgrading the ram would be about $200 or more. So yes, it's a very basic laptop for $504, but as a "free gift" it's on a par with the old HN DLink 604 router which was described by Telus as a $140 value.
Review of a similar Lenovo 3000 C200 laptop, but with a Core2Duo processor here: »www.notebookreview.com/default.a···ovo+C200
I guess for some people it would be a fairly painless way of getting a basic laptop, but Telus is not exactly spelling it all out for customers.

Just so everyone is clear.. the main Q4 promo is NOT the computer/laptop promo. It's the discounted adsl service of 19.95 for 6mo and the regular price is 35.95 (3.0 plan of course).

The alternate promo is the computer or laptop purchase deal where you get a discounted computer/laptop and the ability to pay it over the 3yr term. We have specifically been told not to say it's a free computer/laptop. The customer is clearly purchasing it, albeit for a discount.

I think you have the Q4 promotions confused with Q3 promotion.

There is no free gift with Q4. It's discounted ADSL service or discounted computer (laptop or desktop) with no interest financing.

I just called Telus about my billing and I was rather disapointed with the answers I was getting.
The service contract I signed for one year expired at the end of November, which I was enticed into by a free '2wiregateway'. New year and I am looking for a new deal.
The deal I was offered was another 5.00 discount for a one year contract, that's it. The problem is however the 5.00 discount would be applied to the old rate.....what the heck is this all about....the old rate doesn't exist I'm done that contract, I'm a free agent....
I was also offered 6.0 at my current rate. 6.0 is apparently now available in Sylvan Lake. Nobody called me, nobody notified me, nobody offered me an introductory offer..come on they started this perk game so where is the perk.

The Shaw website is offering 29.95 for 6 months and the first 30 days for free. It's a 5mb down/ 512 up package. No wireless router promo, so I guess I would need to buy a new router if I make the call. Financially its a better deal;however, technically it could be a poorer service for me personally because I am surrounded by Shaw users. I have been told that the queueing problem for Internet access has been resolved..by a Shaw field technician. I think I'll just discuss it with the neighbours to see if they are happy with their Shaw service and what the problems are with their connection.
