To get that, you must: 1. Be in an area they have decided to wire for FIOS. 2. Be in a competitive broadband market. 3. Be in their "speical" pricing zone
That leaves most of us without that option.
Contrast that to CV. EVERYONE in their service area can get broadband - either 15/2 or 30/5. It is available at the same price - whether or not FIOS or DSL is available in your area.

2 edits | reply to BLUNTED 1 Not in NJ apparently. The pricing on the Verizon site is pretty whacky once you can get into the pricing which takes about 5 or 6 clicks and 5 or 6 mins for their My Account pages to load. Below is what it shows I can change my plan to.
With a 2 year agreement: 10/2 - $40 20/5 - $50 20/20 - $65
With a 1 year agreement: 10/2 - $40 20/5 - $50 20/20 - $65 50/20 - $140
Month to month: 10/2 - $48 20/5 - $58 20/20 - $73 50/20 - $160 -- Tweaked your connection? | Mail Parse | Speed Converter |

| reply to jaa Thats alright I'll hold on the ignore but alot more people can get the 50/20 than OOL ultra because I only saw 2 people with ultra since it was announced and I bet nobody else can get it and the 50/20 just came out so give it some time.
Lets just hope they roll out the Ultra soon to beef up the competition. |

| reply to BLUNTED 1 Verizon's 50/20 line is listed as $95 for me. I didn't log in to their site, just entered my phone and home address at »www22.verizon.com/content/ConsumerFios
That's a pretty nice line, but $30 more is a lot to justify. I would have to see people reporting consistent 48+ Mbit speeds and 18+ upload before I would consider paying that much.
Either way, OOL has to notice that verizon now have the speed throne. I would expect a higher speed tier from OOL in the upcoming months. -- "We are the music makers, and we are the dreamers of dreams." |

Solitude I bet you'll get a little more than the 50/20 they advertise and every package I had with Verizon has always been over its advertised speeds on upload and download. |

2 edits | I just did a lookup of my address. They have pretty good prices in my area. 20/20 is listed as 69 w/o TV or 59 with TV. All together the price is something like $120 for double play.
However, why am I not seeing triple play offers? I was hoping that if I was to switch, I'd be able to switch over to a single carrier.
But in any case, in my area, they are offering decent prices, but not 50/20. 20/20 is the highest.
PDF with the results of my lookup attached - I used my address because we don't have a VZ landline.

PS Blunted1, have you had any billing problems or anything out of the ordinary? I just got stuck with a $55 dollar unreturned DSL modem fee which I've been trying to fight. I'm sending them ONE OF MY OWN, nothing to do with Verizon just so they leave me the hell alone - I don't have 50 dollars to throw out on some whim. Besides, they're worthless anyway - you can't sell them if you tried. Why the heck would I not return my modem, and get a bill nearly 6 months after I cancelled their ADSL (at home, I still have it in one of the offices.)
Spent an hour on the phone yesterday, didn't resolve it but got them to send me another UPS receipt so I can send them a modem which doesn't belong to them.

I'll try it eventually, in about 10 months when our CV bills go back to normal rates.
[edit: heh, nice thanks for the suggestion- cute! The only problem is that this is the wrong forum, and a lot of people still can't get FIOS. In any case, thanks!] |

It's good to know the alternatives that exist. But when is FIOS going to come to Brooklyn???!
I live where David used to live. There are lots of high rise 23 story condo and co-op buildings in the area. People would gladly try it if Verizon started showing some initiative.
But hey that's ok. We get everything dead last. I'm used to it. It sucks that I've finished 2 years of College and am graduating, and FIOS is still hyped, but still can't be ordered by the majority of the people in this area.
So why the threads? They're moot. Take them to the FIOS area. Until we can get ubiquitous access, it just goes to underscore how people in my area of Brooklyn are getting shafted.
Have a nice day with your FIOS speeds. -- Cheers,Elizabeth."Flying is learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." ~Douglas Adams (3/11/1952-5/11/2001 - Rest In Peace, Celestial Hitchhiker.) |
