| Re: [ALL] Current list of Cox DNS servers said by exocet_cm :said by masterdave23 :looks like some one is planing to attack there dns servers :P j/k No, just building a list of DNS servers of Cox. I was working on my two DNS servers and started to wonder what DNS servers Cox uses. I went the DNS FAQ for this forum and it was blank, so I did a search on Google and it turned on the original list that I posted. I then went and looked and found a lot were not on that list so I started this thread to see what other ones were out there. Why did I do it? •Fun •Our Cox DNS FAQ is empty •So that I can update the forwarders on my DNS servers to my ISP's DNS servers There is really no reason for a FAQ or anything else on the Cox DNS Servers. Cox uses DHCP and those local DNS Severs will populate the router/internal TCP/IP connection automatically. -- "You can observe a lot by watching". Yogi Berra | |

Cox uses DHCP and those local DNS Severs will populate the router/internal TCP/IP connection automatically. There already was an FAQ on Cox DNS servers. A thread on Cox's DNS servers would fall under the category of "Tech" and "Cox", both recommended for this site and forum, respectively. I see no reason that this thread shouldn't exist unless somebody has a problem with DNS servers being listed, and even then it is public knowledge (open up your TCP/IP settings).
If this thread shouldn't exist then delete it, but it is already #1 on Google out of 928,000 sites: »www.google.com/search?q=Current+···irefox-a and I've replicated it on my website; »johnball.wordpress.com/2007/11/1···servers/ I think it would be more of a disservice to not have this listing.
This is my opinion, but I have a feeling you are against this thread Irish Shark guessing from your first post and then your follow up post. Can anyone who is using those servers confirm that they're using the DNS redirection crap for mistyped URL's?

| Re: [ALL] Current list of Cox DNS servers I've always wanted a list of the Cox DNS servers. This is a great idea adding it to the Cox FAQs.
Also, it would be nice if Cox could update us when they change DNS servers, too.... (and why)
Thanks for the post, exocet_cm!

| FWIW, I just switched from the Cox default DNS servers to 4.2.2.1, 4.2.2.2 and 4.2.2.3 as a test and web surfing seems a bit more snappy (how's that for technical term) to me. | Re: [ALL] Current list of Cox DNS servers Typically, you only need to use any two. That is all the space most routers have for DNS server IP address entries. Your NIC may be able to hold three, or more.
Which ones you pick probably only matter in terms of whether they use the "Typo redirect" feature, or not. Secondarily, might be useful to pick DNS servers most closely located to your geographic location.
For those who suggest OpenDNS as an alternative, you are aware that OpenDNS has "Typo redirection" enabled by default? If you don't want that service, the only way to turn it off is to register an account with them (free), and use their "Dashboard" to disable it. They also have some kind of dynamic IP address option which, when enabled, allows them to preserve your selected options in the event your IP address on your CPE is changed by your ISP. Requires a dynamic DNS updater client. Probably not as useful for cable customers whose IP addresses change less frequently that is typical for DSL customers. -- Norman ~Oh Lord, why have you come ~To Konnyu, with the Lion and the Drum
