Verizon Price Break for "Existing" 768kb DSL Customers

Hello all,

Due to many complaints (from existing DSL customers) about Verizon offering DSL service at $14.99 for life for "new customers only", Verizon has decided to offer this same price to existing DSL customers. Their decision to do this happened just last week and it is not publicised anywhere on their website.

The way I found out was when I went to cancel my DSL service, the Verizon rep offered me the above deal to stay with Verizon. Last month, I tried every way to get that deal and it just couldn't be had because I was an existing customer. So out of extreme frustration (that new customers were going to pay $7.00 per month less than me), I switched to Comcast. So, again, when I called today, this was the first I heard about the unpublicised deal for existing customers.

I had my friend go through the re-signup process and he got it! Here's how he did it:
He called 1-800-567-6789 and requested the $14.99 a month for life deal. The service rep then input the new prices into his existing account and told him to go to www.verizon.net/greatrate and to resign up. Now, if you don't get the rep to change the figures in your account, and you try to do it via that website, your current rate will get jacked up by about $2.00 per month. The rep will tell you that the change (in your account) could take up to 24 hours and you should not confirm a resign up (via that website) until the dollar figures are correctly adjusted.

Unfortunately, this deal is only for existing 768kb customers and, I think, it ends on 11-30-2007.

I hope every existing 768kb customers takes advantage of this "secret Verizon deal."

That's great to hear! Have any other current subscribers been successful in getting the lifetime rate of $14.99? It tried to call today but they are closed, I'll try again on Monday.

ecdiamond,

Yes, Several of my friends have resigned with Verizon. That's how I know it works and that's why I posted this notice. Please report back on your own personal results.

Well, after being on hold for what seemed like an eternity, I was denied this deal.

I spoke to billing, not retention, I don't know if that made a difference.

I left verizon last year and now they are offering me 14.95 for life for the 3MB service to come back. I would think they would also offer this to you to keep you. But when it comes right to the reason I left it was because of stuff like this. They don't care about you until you do leave.

ecdiamond,

Sorry for your frustrations; however, I wouldn't give up yet. First off, billing isn't the place you want to be; however, they are well aware of this deal because they are the ones that told me about it in the first place. Anyway, my friends went through a normal service rep (sales I guess) and that is how they transacted the deal as I originally described. I'd make one more try to a sales rep before I would give up and this time, make them specifically aware of the fact that you know three other people that got it last week and that their contracts were not even close to expiration.

my 1 year contract will be up in mid December, so in early november, i called to cancel the service by the end of contract, the rep asked what was the reason to cancel, i said i am going to signup earthlink wifi service, then i asked the rep about the $14.99/month 768k service for life with two year contract, initially the rep told me the deal has expired end of October, then i said well, i just received a promotion ad email about the deal extended to Nov 30, i told him i can cancel then sign up again, he then checked with his supervisor, and offered me to stay and gave me $14.99 for life at 768k with two year contract renewal

newbie2007,

Glad to hear you got it and thanks for giving the associated details. However, it really looks like the Verizon used car lot is now officially open for business and the advertised prices are just a "come on" to get you into the showroom.

I am paying $31.99 for the 3/768and have been since March. I logged into the www.verizon.net/greatrate and my account said I could get the two year commitment deal for the $31.99. I have been on the phone most of the day trying to get this changed to The $27.99. I was even told that the rate I am paying is because of the area or state I am in and that could not be changed. Anyone else in central PA paying this price?

I have a hard time accepting this $31.99 with being an existing customer and a new customer can get the service $4 cheaper for life. I have made up my mind to fight Verizon like hell to get the $27.99. I intend to hound Verizon Customer Relations and whoever it takes to try to get this new price. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

It sure is nice how they treat their existing customers!

I have 768k/128k dsl from verizon for almost 2 years, verizon gave me $14.99 for the 1st year, and then after that, they charged me $21.99, after tax and everything, comes to $23.

so today, i called 1800-567-6789, asked for billing dept, spoke with a verizon rep with an indian accent, he repeated everything i said, so annoying. anyway, i told the rep i would like to switch to 3mb/768k at $29 with one year commitment, then he checks the system, and said existing customer currently $31.99 a month, but he agreed to give me $24 credit within next billing cycle. and if i cancel before 1 year contract ends, i will be subjected to $49.99 termination fee, and after 1 year contract ends, it will automatically switch to month to month basis unless i renew contract again.
he gave me a confirmation for my order, and i was on the phone for less than 10 mintues. i didn't threaten the rep to cancel my service, i just told him i want to upgrade my speed, renew with 1 year contract, the whole process was very pleasant. i am in Southeastern PA. i didn't have to cancel and sign up DSL service again to get $29.99 a month, paying all the shipping for modem, activation fee etc. and the rep assured me my dsl service will not be interrrupted, just billing changed and service upgrade will be effective within 24 to 48 hours.

loyalcust,

Thanks for sharing your positive experience with Verizon; however, it appears that you still ended up paying $4.00 more a month than a new customer.

Does anyone know what state or federal agency I can contact to complain about this price discrimination that Verizon is doing to us? I maybe should not be getting so upset over this issue but for some reason it does tick me off!

i am aware of the 1st month free, $20 giftcard for new customer, but i only wanted to signup for 1 year at $29.99, instead of $27.99 with 2 year commitment, and they may get you back on shipping and new activation fee if any, for new customers.

i am paying $31.99 a month, but they give me $24 credit on the next billing cycle to offset the $2/month difference.

i think verizon has met my goal,
i live in apt, might move anytime, i figure i don't wanna commit too long for contract. if i were to sign up for two years, they might have given me $48 credit instead of $24, and charge me $31.99 a month. but overall i am satisfied.

loyalcust,

It's good to hear that you got exactly what you wanted. Now I just wish the rest of us could (would have been) be so lucky.

WE need to hammer Verizon customer relations,or whoever we can get to listen to us about this issue. The more people that complain, maybe it will do some good. If not, then it is just some of our time lost.

It would be nice if I had another place to go for Broadband service but I do not. There is no cable that will run to my location and my dialup was screwed up by Verizon when they installed the new equipment in the RT for the DSL. That is why I feel I must fight them on this pricing issue because I am planning on being with them for a long time to come.
