[Other] Charter sold local franchise to Avenue Broadband?

Charter has recently sold their local franchise in the Georgetown, IL and surrounding areas to Avenue Broadband.

Has anyone ever heard of Avenue Broadband?

The only thing I know is that they are supposed to be located in Tyler, TX.
Other than that I do not have a clue as I cannot seem to find any information about them.

Does anyone know anything about these people?

Has me curious because the only other thing I could find is some articles about towns in that area
being notified that the franchise has been sold to Avenue Broadband. No real info on the company.

Would be nice if we could get someone from Avenue Broadband to come to DSL Reports & give us
some info on their company.

I realize this is a Charter forum but considering the franchise was Charter that is why I asked here.

As found on State of Texas website:

Company Information: AVENUE BROADBAND COMMUNICATIONS LLC
6125 PALUXY DR
TYLER, TX 75703-5976

Status: IN GOOD STANDING NOT FOR DISSOLUTION OR WITHDRAWAL through May 15, 2008
Registered Agent: KAY MONIGOLD
6125 PALUXY ROAD
TYLER, TX 75703
Registered Agent Resignation Date:
State of Incorporation: TX
File Number: 0800470794
Charter/COA Date: March 24, 2005
Charter/COA Type: Charter
Taxpayer Number: 32017068431

Do a search for Kay Monigold and it brings up a treasure trove of info

My initial guess by hurriedly looking over some of the info is that Avenue was created to gobble up little onesie-twosie cable outfits and lone outlying areas served by big cable that they're not interested in hanging onto that badly.

Just an extremely wild guess, though.

Well our area in Indiana, Washington to be exact have come into Avenue's possession and started there transition on the night or the 2nd of January. So far as of the 4th all I can say is nothing good, email migration to the @avenuebroadband.com had not worked for some people I know, mine works fine though. I have internet access but the Speed has be erratic since the morning of the 3rd. I cannot get on Xbox Live, the latency is in the 300's to the Xbox servers. I maybe able to play for at the most 5-10 min at a time. My 3meg line has been running anywhere from 409 Down up to the mid 2000's, the upload is just as erratic. Customer support seems to be really nice and they say this is just because of the transition and they have run into more issues than they thought they would, although they said they are working on it.

If that is your idea of "good" you really need a better ISP. There should of not been ANY changes to internet, changing company name does not mean product changes to worse. they are just feeding you BS.

I know there shouldn't have been ANY Issues with the change...I'm just trying to be patient right now. So far though I'm not too impressed with them. "Yes I do miss Charter ."

Re: [Other] Charter sold local franchise to Avenue Broadband?

guard4 when adelphia sold to time Warner out here in calif. time Warner had to replace allot of cable to fiber and do allot of upgrading for the servers. most of which was seriously outdated. give it a month or so. most people i know that went through it said there server improved after a month. lower latency and the connection was more stable then before.

Re: [Other] Charter sold local franchise to Avenue Broadband?

Oh I know it takes time.., but I do tend to get impatient. And lets not forget like Big said up above you these idiots have put caps in place where there NEVER was before with Charter at the Helm.("at least not being used.") If AT&T could get me on DSL at a speed comparable I would have Dropped Avenue like a bad habit a long time ago.

As because AT&T can only promise me that I could get a ranger from 100 kbps to 700 kbps with no Idea of Upload speeds I have to keep what I got for the Xbox360 and the PC.

There was more to the transition than a name change. You guys don't have any idea what it takes to transition a major network. It actually went a lot smoother than I had ever thought. Avenue Team is right, I think everyone should be back up to normal, even you WoW champs.

NO word yet on the traffic usage TOS. Hope they don't decide to enforce it. I would be in trouble.

What major changes? Its not like they have to rewire a city to get everyones internet working..that is ALREADY WORKING in the first place. Our phone company going AT&T required zero changes, nothing changed except name.

Now if they just bought the customers and had to relocate stuff around sure..but that would just be dumb.

Avenue has also purchased the Charter franchise in Brazil, Indiana, which also serves the eastern side of Terre Haute...as of 12/1

Re: [Other] Charter sold local franchise to Avenue Broadband?

Don't always "wish" for a different provider, awhile back some charter members got sold out to a provider, who promptly put bandwidth caps, and they lowered the speed tier from 3meg/512 to 512/256.

@in.us
Well charter wouldn't do anything in our area. Hopefully this company will actually expand and provide us with high speed internet. I am sick and tired of only being able to have dial-up.

Re: [Other] Charter sold local franchise to Avenue Broadband?

am in the exact same boat (vincennes res).. has been 6 days now and have not heard a word about what the problem is or when it will be fixed. i have had my share of crappy isp's but Avenue Broadband easily has them all beat and we're only 6 days in. for anyone looking for an isp in the area.. Stay away from them... only headaches will follow.

Re: [Other] Charter sold local franchise to Avenue Broadband?

What sucks even worse (I also live in vincennes/bicknell), and I just read on avenues TOS that they cap bandwidth. Was hoping someone could tell me if they enforce it or not.

8.0 Bandwidth/Network Traffic and Other Limitations
8.1 You must comply with the current bandwidth/network traffic, data storage and other limitations on the Services.

Users must ensure that their activity does not improperly restrict, inhibit or degrade any other customer’s use of the Services, nor represent (in the sole judgment of Avenue Broadband) an unusually large burden on the network itself. The guidelines for Bandwidth/Network Traffic Usage/month for each service package are the following: Residential - totaling 5 Gigabytes, or 3 Gigabytes download/2 Gigabytes upload; Home Office - totaling 15 Gigabytes, or 10 Gigabytes download/5 Gigabytes upload; Small Office - totaling 25 Gigabytes, or 18 Gigabytes download/7 Gigabytes upload; Professional Office - totaling 60 Gigabytes, or 40 Gigabytes download/20 Gigabyte upload . Users exceeding the Bandwidth/Network Traffic amounts specified for their Service Package may be charged $10.00 for each Gigabyte used in excess of their specified amount. In addition, users must ensure that their activity does not improperly restrict, disrupt, inhibit, degrade or impede Avenue Broadband’s ability to deliver the Services and monitor the Services, backbone, network nodes, and/or other network services.
5 gigs a month is pretty damn wack I think.

Re: [Other] Charter sold local franchise to Avenue Broadband?

Does anyone who lives in indiana and now has Avenue as an ISP also use an Ambit Model# U10C018 modem? I'm wonder if that might be the issue I was on the phone to Avenue tech support all day today trying to help them resolve the issue by logging into WoW and letting them watch my pc from their end to try to figure out what's wrong and there's still no fix...This SUX MAJORLY.

Maybe Charter sold to Avenue to make Charter look better!

I feel for y'all....

My ex girlfriend was in the 'New' Avenue service area and Charter stunk, but this looks like it is MUCH worse.

Hi i was also a charter customer and avenue has taken it over it has been a week and my internet usually does not work. i have called avenue about this problem 7 times and all the same answer. they don't even know the problem yet.. Avenue is awful.. the tech support is given by basically anyone off the street who only knows what a computer is. i really wish it would go back to charter

@suddenlink.net

Avenue Broadband did, indeed, buy 23 systems from Charter...most in Indiana and a few in Illinois. Avenue Broadband is led by Kay Monigold, CEO and President, who is also a board member of the National Cable Television Cooperative, NCTC, and a former board member of the American Cable Association, ACA. More information will be posted on the company website, avenuebroadband.com.

Who cares about Downstream, I would like to see a increase in the upstream myself, say unto around the 700's no reason we couldn't have at least a 500kbps upload.

I live in Westville, IL and in 3 months I have went from loving my connection with Charter to wishing death on Avenue. Since the take over at the end of Dec / Early Jan my connection has sucked. I have been on the 1.5 MBPS "Platinum" package for $79.99 a month because I download a lot of files from so its nothing to download 15-20 GB a month while after the bad connections started and I went from downloading at 1.3-1.5 MBPS to around 450 kbs so I called and was advised that Avenue was "upgrading" so the net would be slow at times. So finally after 3 months I called the Westville office and started talking to one of the nice ladies there so she looked at my account and it had been changed to the "Gold" package speed but I was still being changed the "Platinum" price, so she changed it back for me and issued a credit to my account for the 2 months and my speed went back to normal until Friday(03-14-08) so I called Avenue "Tech support" which is a joke. Before I called I looked on the net about Avenue and seen a few post how they cap usage so when I got the "Tech" guy on the phone I asked him point blank, DO YOU CAP INTERNET SPEED and he advised me NO. So after about 20-25 min of testing my speeds on »speedtest.wstv.cablerocket.net/ which is what the "Tech" guy advised to do he said yes your speeds are not right and I don't know why, he put me on hold and went to ask the other "Tech" guys. So after waiting 10-15 min's he came back and advised me that I have "exceeded my limits for the month and my connection has been CAPPED". At this point I went off and asked him why he lied to me when I asked him if Avenue caps and he said I never asked him that or he would of told me. I asked him what the hell am I paying $80 bucks a month for then and he advised me in a smart ass tone, "5 GB download limits" he then started to get rude and said that within the last week I have downloaded 11 GB. I asked him why wasn't I informed of cap limits before hand and he advised that's not are job to tell you, read it on the site(AvenueBroadband) so I went to the site and looked and there is nothing on there and he would say where it was on the site and I asked him, you said its on the site show me and he came back and said if you want a bigger download limit then move up to home / small business with 25 GB limits. WTF I'm so done with these assholes I'm going with Dish Network or even DSL
