Few Ideas for the forum...

Okay....instead of just having one game going on at a time, why don't we have two or so running. i mean it gets sort of boring waiting for games to end.

Thoughts?? We should try and have 2-3 games going at once...might bring in some more people.

I'd host a Chanukah-themed Maccabees vs. the Greeks game but I think we're booked up with theme games until 2008...

That's why we need to run more games at once....waiting for one game to end is taking forever....

I think what Yock has been doing lately is a good idea. Running a smaller game as the big games go on. It lets the newer players gain some experience before they go in for something bigger, like the Muz experience...no?

I can be one of the boars...
How bout a thread for "commenting" on an ongoing game. Live players not allowed?

not a good idea in case the current players get ideas for the current game.

yeah...we might want a more complex game and an easier game setup at the same time. I plan on running a few simpler games...we need to get some new blood in here.

The Muz Experience....I like the sound of it!

All for more games. I think it would also be useful for the game mods to have a co-mod to show them the ropes on setup, balancing, etc. If we can get more people comfortable with the process, setting up more games becomes less of a problem.

I am always open to a co-mod to help them learn!

Since all of the mods have a separate offsite forum site for the Mafia, how about making it into two forums:

1. One for the Mafia as currently. The passwords and UserIDs which you need to see this forum would be given to the Mafia members at role PM time, as is currently done.

2. A second forum for which everyone in Mafia Games has a userID and password, but their UserID would be shut off if they are currently in one of the ongoing games.

As each player gets killed in a game, their login to forum (2) above gets checked off in the Admin panel and they can then go in there and bullshit with the other dead players. No living players could see into this forum.

As each Mafia player gets killed in an ongoing game, their read-write to the "bullshitting" forum would be enabled and their Mafia forum privilege would be set to Read-Only.

This way all the dead players would have something to do. I don't think giving them a game to play in is what they want - they want to watch the end of the game they just got removed from and bullshit about it with the others.

And please please please stop putting Serial Killers in the games. Only once out of what, 40 games has the Serial Killer won, and I hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate Serial Killers.

I don't see any useful purpose for them whatsoever. They can't win, and they fuck up the whole Cop/Doc subgame. Nothing says we have to have Serial Killers. They are not in the original Mafia game of Russia and they do not have anything to do with an informed minority playing against an ignorant majority.

All my hard work in that Animal Farm game was completely shot to hell by the Serial Killer, who didn't even have any interest in whether the Mafia won or lost. That's about the third time that has happened to me and plays probably the biggest role in my not wanting to start a game. Hard work should pay off, not be subject to random acts like that.

I don't think the site security model will support that, and I really the game mod to be blocked by the forum mod(s) in order to get a game going.

I'm not talking about this forum. I'm talking about the outside Mafia forums that all the mods set up. Now they have one forum exposed, the Mafia one. All of the ready-made forum software I have seen lets you make many forums and just like here, users can see or not see certain forums.

Is it possible have two sets of stickies up at the top?

Would be nice if there was one for the signups and the games.

If the idea is a single off-site forum, rather than the hodge podge of current sites, then I can look into modifying mine to fit the bill. By default, SMF reveals a lot of information about who is online, when they last logged in, and other less than desirable information to be made public. I combat this now by putting the entire thing behind simple HTTP authentication which I change for each game, but that wouldn't work if it hosted multiple private forums.

If you like, I can see about making SMF keep quiet about online statistics and make a few of you administrators there.

with pro-boards (free) you can do this. You just create a hidden site and it doesn't show up at all on the front page. It also does not show who is online....
