| openSUSE "initializing the installation process"
I'm looking thru the opensuse and LQ forums for an answer but I thought I'd just throw this out here...
After the openSUSE 10.3 boot up (loading usb devices, yast, etc) I get to a GUI that says "Initializing the installation process" but it just hangs there forever. 1st time clock mousing cursor froze after a while, 2nd time it just spun the hands on the clock until I got tired of waiting.
Any suggestions? -- kustomerservice.net |

| I haven't tried 10.3, so my comment is based on my experience with 10.1.
The boot screen should have an option for a "safe mode" boot. There should also be an "options" or similar button that allows other choices. You will need a choice different from the default. I had to use the "no local apic" option to install on this system. -- AT&T dsl; Westell 2200 modem/router; SuSE 10.1; firefox 2.0.0.8 |

| reply to Chuckles Do you/can you check the media or use fsck on the device you want to install on?
I'd try booting a bootable CD of some distro, and checking the media you want to install to.
Also, is the ISO burn good? What do you see on the CD drive light when this happens? What do you see on the hard drive light?

| I dont even get to a point to choose what media I want to install to.
I did set the BIOS settings to fail-safe and I got past the "initializing the installation environment" screen to a media check screen where it froze. all drive lights off. i think i will re-burn the install cd with the padding option and maybe at a slower speed too.
Prior to setting the fail-safe in BIOS all boot option (safe mode, without acpi, etc) had same issue. -- kustomerservice.net |

I've installed a few other distros before, but I will try something else to see if it still works. -- kustomerservice.net |

| reply to Chuckles USB ports were disabled when I set BIOS to fail-safe. I was able to tab and alt through the install process =) Just have to change BIOS again so USB mouse is enabled. Silly me... -- kustomerservice.net |
