I read somewhere that something like 3,000,000 toll free (800/888/877/866) numbers have been gobbled up by a select few adult phone entertainment companies as numbers go back into circulation, as they want to get callers who misdial. Try dialing randomly some nasty words, or even dial random numbers, and you'll see what I mean. Soon whole toll free number area codes you may just refer to as "the porn codes." |

I can confirm this a bit because a guy in our office was doing a report on which of our numbers were being gobbled up by the adult phone entertainment biz. One popular number that used to be posted here (and is in some FAQ's still) was the 1-800-NET-HELP.
Call that number now and see what you get!
needless to say it's a service alright, probably not the one you are looking for!

I can completely believe this. I called a 1-800 number a while back while at work and got asked by a recorded woman's voice if I wanted "hot, steamy sex" (or something to that affect). Remember that this was at work! Granted, I wouldn't want to have dialed that number while at home either, but my wife doesn't log all of my calls. When I tried the number again a little while later, I got the place I was trying to call. Apparently, I fat fingered a few numbers and wound up at a phone sex line. (I believe the original number was for an SSL certificate service.) |
