| reply to TJ_in_IL said by jengu :..... It was sent as a 2 page PDF I guess with a cover page as the first page. This has shown up in the control panel as 3 used. I thought it was 50 faxes for $1.95/mnth, not 50 pages/mnth?
I hope I am wrong or I will be canceling. ~CMT -- There's no place like 127.0.0.1

| reply to VTBrendan I signed up for the service and it broke my voice service. People who called me or I called could hear me but I could not hear them. I spoke to Carmin Clark in support and he was clueless on the problem. Finally I cancelled the the fax2email service and my voice service worked again. I do not recommend it..... |

| reply to dcurrey said by dcurrey :Virtual numbers are different. The fax service works with your current number. (no need for second number) VT intercepts the fax transmission in route before your phone rings. Yes it would still work with virtual numbers the same if you wanted to add one and/or use one for that purpose. I called in about tying a virtual number to the email to fax and was told they can't do it. I have a fax line with VT that I can't use and I had to forward all incoming faxes to another service. Have been paying nearly 10 bucks each month for a year now.
I was hoping I was going to be able to save by changing the fax number to a virtual number and then having faxes come to that, but no luck. |

1 edit | reply to TJ_in_IL Is the fax via email working? I have signed up and tried to send a fax. The fax was not received and I have not received any kind of report back that it was successful or not. The control panel shows that 0 faxes have been sent.
Edit: Apparently one went through. The recipient said it is just three pages of boxes. It was sent as a 2 page PDF I guess with a cover page as the first page. This has shown up in the control panel as 3 used. |

Send Fax Please note you can also send a fax via email by following these steps:
Add your email address to the Allowed Email list located under 'Edit Settings' Create a new email, attach the files you wish to fax. Allowed file types are PDF, RTF, and standard TXT files. For best results, PDF is recommended Send the email to destination@vtfax.com Example: 15183715919@vtfax.com |

2 edits | reply to iampedro It looks like it can be turned on anytime from the new CP. I have an icon to activate it with various options. More faxes higher price. I assume it works. Haven't tried it.
If not on the new cp PM one of the Vt reps that float around here. They might switch you over.
Edit: Noticed in the detail that outgoing fax is done via web. What do you upload a document or something then it sends it. Anybody got a screen shot of what this looks like? |

join:2001-10-10 Rockville, MD | reply to CyberSultan So if we have a virtual number for $3.95 a month, we can switch it to this fax service for only $1.95 a month? Or is the 1.95 a month on top of the virtual number fee? |

CyberSultan Premium join:2006-07-20 | reply to TraderEd You will eventually be migrated over to the new CP. Or you can PM VTIain and have him migrate you over now. New customers are being placed on the new CP from the start. |

| reply to conaty Per the VT features page:
About - Fax to Email Service - [return to feature list]
Let your phone line double as a fax machine. Enable fax to email and receive faxes via email that are sent to your VT phone number. Also send outbound faxes via email as well as through the control panel.
To Configure Fax to Email Service:
1. Login into your account at cp.viatalk.com 2. Click on the Fax to Email link on the features page 3. Select a fax to email package and click on the link that says "Add Fax to Email"
To Use:
1. Log into your account at cp.viatalk.com 2. Click on the Fax to Email link on the features page 3. Enter your email address into the "Allowed Email Addresses" section 4. Select one of the addresses to receive incoming faxes via email.
To Send:
1. Send an email from one of the addresses listed in the "Allowed Email Addresses" table to 11-Digit-Number@vtfax.com.
Ex- to send a fax to (518)-371-5919 => 15183715919@vtfax.com
To Receive:
1. Send a fax to your viatalk phone number and you will receive it in PDF form via email at the address you specified.
Above is what the VT web page says regarding Fax to email. Being a current user I am unable to "see" this when I log into my account.
When going to: cp.viatalk.com I can't log in with my user name and password.
My solution since before this feature became available has been & currently is to use k7.com. Who provides free fax to email and voice mail service.
Good luck with the VT fax to email service. - Ed -- Try VoIP? Broadband Phones

| reply to VTBrendan I wish I could comment, but it seems to not be working, or at least my 1 month free expired after 1 week. I cannot recieve faxes on my line, and in the CP for Fax to Email, it only show the add on feature.
Not sure that I want to pay for something I cannot confirm is operational.

| reply to VTBrendan thats great, but I'd like to see a faq or something since I would be scanning documents as jpg or pdf and I would like to see what they will look like on the recipient end before sending. So simply emailing something and assuming it would make it there legibly is a big issue. Also, are files deleted after they are faxed (since one might be faxing sensative documents)? |

| reply to bubbanc said by bubbanc :So where can we find information on how to upload faxes? I want to figure out how easy it is before I sign up. I'm on a mac and use Vuescan for scanning documents. I happen to work for the company I posted... but anyway. Fax2mail systems typically take the body of the email as the 'coverpage', and the attachment as the "fax document". You attach a valid document type (.doc, .pdf, etc.) and it gets output to the fax machine on the other end. Your input is sent via EMAIL. |
