Re: Disappearing Car Door....

You'd be screwed in the rain or snow though.

It probably goes through the bottom of the door as it's the only thing attached.

Would you loose your power switches in the door?

What about speakers... How would the wiring get there?

And with the removal of the b-pillar. The b-pillar is a load bearing member in a roll over situation.

I don't see how it's strong enough in a t-bone type accident

I'd like to know how they can claim this:
Our vehicle architecture offers an attractive rethink for car design and adds greatly to overall vehicle safety including our structural integration of the door with the unibody and our cruciform door frame technology.

Yes best thing about this door is that it will be nice in parking situations.
And the worst thing about it when it malfunctions is that it will do so at the worst possible time.

Personally, I'd rather keep the structural integrity of the car in tact, and just use the normal door like everyone else.

Sweet, so now i'd be totally screwed when my battery dies!

I think I saw one of those cars on eBay a while back.. It was probably linked somewhere in BBR for that matter..

It's a nifty idea. Probably a little more sensible (as far as parking goes) than Gull-wing.

With the b-pillar removed, the car would be weakened significantly for real safety in a roll over situation. That aside, it is just another thing to go wrong. I'm such a pessimist. Won't be long though, and half the ricers will have this on their cars.

It's not new. Ford had this on a model car a while back.. it was on a model from 84 I think. However, there were some safety issues with the attempt to make the door light enough to be moved with the hydraulics. But now the less, and awesome concept.

Very cool design for a new car door.
