Stupid high ping! |
It's almost a year i had been suffer from a high ping,
i even cannot play CS cuz it always lag!I alway get around 90-120 ping while playing CS, my package is 1024mb which is the promotion from tmnet. I should get the ping around 20 to 40. All my friend have a good ping except me! Does anyone have a same problem with me? I even port forward it and let my firewall off. But it still doesn't work!  I wish i could fix it.... |

The tracert shows below 100ms ping. And 90-120ms ping is a good thing for online games. 20-40ms ping is almost like playing on LAN.

| But my package is (Streamyx 1.0Mbps). This package sync at 1.0Mbps on download speed and 384kbps upload speed. So, it is impossible for me to get 90 above... I should get 40ms below.... Besides, i seen a lot of my friend's ping and they subscript a cheaper package. My Ping is worse then them and even worse then Streamyx 384kbps package!  That's make me piss off I been fooled for one year by ignoring the ping! MY AWP GUN ALWAYS DELAYED ON CS! I don give the damn and I WANT THE FCKING TMNET TO FIXED THIS!

Fact 2: 66ms average respond time to 202.71.97.48 is fast already. Now if you have 439ms ping to the same server from my end you may have ground to complain. If you lag with this kind of double-digit ping the problem lies with your computer.

Assuming if all your answer are yes, you should complain to TMNet too! Man, you have a very extreme high ping! I think i have found a same forum... I had copy a few result from some forum....

Oh, you think you have high ping to TMNet website at 35ms?
That's low enough, TMNet will ignore you if you complain.
And as I do not play CS I do not really bother.
And BTW, I use Streamyx too.
If you do not believe me that 35ms ping is a good value, go as the people at »forum.lowyat.net/NetworkingTechSupport
They will all concur with me.

| Honestly I would like tos ee your "friends" ping stats, i agree that anything below 50ms for international servers would be like expecting LAN performance over countless ISP's. Network latency and overhead will prevent overseas sites having local site performance.

| FYI for OP from someone who used to play AA -
ping times to US servers at best high 200+ to 300+
ping times to Europe is usually 300+ to 400+
Ping (also known as latency) is affected by line quality and distance. Even if you have very good quality connection, you will still see 3 digit pings.
If you get ping times higher than this, you have a problem somewhere between your computer and the server - report to TMNet.
If you get ping times substantially lower than this you are either -
1. playing on a LAN;
2. playing on a server located in Malaysia or maybe Singapore; or
3. physically some place closer to the server than Malaysia :P
If you want sub-100 pings, play on a local server or on LAN. Otherwise, migrate to US or Europe |

Uh? So much variation in those pings, and some timed out. How is your PC connected? Wireless? If you're serious about gaming, get a wire! If you're already wired, maybe the wire is damaged, or your ethernet equipment at either (PC or router) end is damaged. Can you run a telnet session on your router? Try ping from there.
Like the other posters have said, ping time is not related to bandwidth (well, unless you've congested your connection with P2P, or streaming movies at the same time).
Regardless of all these other issues, where is your game server located? The USA is about 20,000km from here. Light travels at 3x10^8 m/s, so fastest signal at the surface is 2x10^4x10^3 / 3x10^8 = 2/3x10^-1 = 66ms. Electrical signals travel slower than this ideal. Every router and repeater briefly 'stops' your signal too.
Having played a lot of Tremulous online, I think I'm lucky when I get a 250ms ping to a USA server. |
