A review from safer-networking.org (2003), good but dated since things like NetTransport is no longer free, unless you have/find an older version. »www.safer-networking.org/en/arti···ers.html

Some addenda
Second to last choice "A Specialized Web Site" is somewhat of a new phenomina, sites appearing that allow you to download clips from elsewhere that aren't "downloadable". So I put that choice in just to give us an idea of how many of us will use a site like the example from time to time. Not exactly a true download manager program, but a downloader of sorts.

NetTransport home site has something that my AntiVirus (AVG) triggers on, I assume a false positive, just a caution if you go there with AVG.

FlashGot doesn't look to be a download manager per se, appears to be an interface that lets you use other download managers with mozilla Firefox (but I decided to include it)

While we have no poll category for web downloading programs like WebReaper , I decided not to include them in the poll, but feel free to mention one if you also use it for downloading. Technically they would be more of a spider/crawler but some download managers have that feature (like Conceiva which I use).
Also not including questionable or illegal ones (StreamboxVCR illegal in USA but ancient now).

And here is last year's poll in case you want to see what was said or copy something over to this years DM Poll 2006

Re: [Poll] Download Managers 2008

I read the last poll and saw our diehard Opera man Rob A See Profile post it, so I knew I had to add it this year

Me? I'm using Opera a lot for that feature now-a-days.

Still have NetTransport used it a lot when free, bothered when it became nagware, so had a decision to make.
Felt a little bad not supporting him, but decided to spend the bucks on Conceiva Download Studio because it also has some spider features. It integrates with MSIE, so at a web page I can right click and have it show all the links. Really useful at times to find the secret embedded link I want to download

Thank you for the excellent Poll Rxdoxx See Profile !

I've used a few on the list in the past, but Operas built in manager usually works great for my purposes these days...so it gets my vote.

Windows = Flashget

Linux = d4x

I voted for both but I don't see any votes for d4x. Weird.

Voted "none." Many years ago I used "GetRight" but then I was on dialup. Don't see the need now.
