The backup is 4 hours TALK time ... if your not using the phone continually, it will last days, ready for your 911 call with the rest of NY dark ...
Go try unplugging that battery backup and tell us how many 'DAYS' it lasts.

Unless you have one of the newer types that shut off Automatically, and require you to go push the 'Emergency' button to make a phone call, you have less than 8 hours of standby time, until no phone service at all.

Forget about Internet or TV service, because that shuts off almost immediately.

If you have Voicewing, Vonage, or any type of VoIP service, your phone is dead if the power goes out, the ONT does not have a backup battery for Internet, or TV service.

Just hope you don't loose power while the BBU is doing a system test, where it runs the battery down part way to check it's capacity, because then you are starting out with a battery that is only half-full, or half-empty, depending if you want to be optimistic or pessimistic about it.

Get a decent sized UPS to plug the BBU into if you want anything close to a single day of FiOS Phone Service, when the power goes out.

I'd go even further - pick up a few spare batteries for the BBU, just in case.

I'm all set in case of emergency - my trusty Honda generator, ONT connected to an UPS, several spare batteries and my mobile phones.
