Buying Unlocked Phones....

Not sure if this is the right section but I am an alltel subscriber... I was wondering with all the cell phones for sale all over the web that are unlocked... does this mean I can use them with my Alltel service??

More often than not unlocked simply refers to GSM phones that can be used with any GSM provider (via essentially any SIM card). This usually doesn't really apply, at least not quite in the same sense, to CDMA phones, which Alltel (as well as Sprint and Verizon Wireless). So in your case, in case of Alltel, it wouldn't really apply/work. There is a similar concept of buying basically any CDMA phone (that is also unlocked) and using it with Alltel, but it would really depend on Alltel activating it and allowing you to use it on their network. Which is why this isn't really done when it comes to CDMA phones and carriers (since each carrier often only allows their own phones to be activated and used on their network).
