| [POLL] Pop-up Blockers - 2008 Member Choice
Welcome to the Pop-up Blocker section of the 2008 Member Choice Software Polls.

Wikipedia's explanation for "Pop-ups" is as follows: "Pop-up ads or popups are a form of online advertising on the World Wide Web intended to increase web traffic or capture email addresses. It works when certain web sites open a new web browser window to display advertisements. The pop-up window containing an advertisement is usually generated by JavaScript, but can be generated by other means as well. A variation on the pop-up window is the pop-under advertisement, which opens a new browser window hidden under the active window. Pop-unders do not interrupt the user immediately and are not seen until the covering window is closed, making it more difficult to determine which web site opened them."
A Pop-up blocker can be a stand alone program or intergrated into your browser that prevents the barrage of unwanted ads opening. Now, most of your browsers include pop-up blocking tools or addons.
Please vote for the program/tool/browser you use or have used in the past. Multiple votes are allowed. I got my list from past polls and Wikipedia. If I don't have the program you use listed, please vote for "Other" and supply a link. Thank you for taking the time to vote.

| Nice poll!
Voted for AdMuncher which not-only blocks pop-ups, but blocks any internet based advertising on any internet client, not just web browsers.
In the past I have used the built-in popup blockers in Firefox, IE and the Google Toolbar. But with AdMuncher running those are redundant. |

Since Ad Muncher doesn't yet work with Vista, I'm using the IE7Pro add-on to IE, and its Ad Blocker componenent works very well. -- Life is simply one damned thing after another. |

| reply to delenn13 Windows IE6 handles it pretty well for me.
I do keep Popki handy for special situations where I have to look at the dark side of the web. I like it because it is stand-alone (installs nothing), changes nothing on my system, and I manually activate it when needed. quote: PopKi works entirely by scanning the open windows on your desktop and sending API (Application Programming Interface) messages back to the operating system.
Unfortunately the author doesn't support it anymore, but I do keep it on my USB toolkit drive for working on friends systems... if they are infected I can stop browser windows from opening. -- Was a Cruise Fanatic, one cruise on Princess cured me. Bleah |
