Does anyone know how to get a Ciso 1801 DSL Router to work with Embarq's Service?? I know the VCI and VPI and my static address/gateway but cannot get the service to work with either of the RFC1493 types.
Thanks, Jeremy Rich |

| Jeremy,
You probably already have the answer to this and I know how unhelpful Embarq can be as I just dealt with them. To use the adsl card instead of the modem supplied by Embarq, you have to set up integrated routing and bridging:
! bridge irb ! interface atm 0/1/0 no ip address no atm ilmi-keepalive dsl operating-mode auto bridge-group 1 pvc 8/35 encapsulation aal5snap ! interface BVI1 ip address (your static IP and mask) ! ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 (your gateway) ! bridge 1 protocol ieee bridge 1 route ip
It took me forever to beat out of the technician that they were using 1483 in bridging mode. Most of them just stated they were using ENET encapsulation (i went so far as to ask one of them what that meant in the real world) which is obviously their term for aal5snap.
Once they told me the mode of bridging, the config was pretty straight forward and then just applied my access firewall lists to the BVI interface. |

| reply to alucky8ball Since this thread has been resurrected, I think it is important to note that Embarq does not provide support for any type of third party routers, Cisco or otherwise. A more appropriate place to look for answers would be with Cisco. --

| Actually, their support does help with what they call the popular 4 or something like that. As far as I know that's just for basic setup and simple connection issues with Linksys, Belkin, DLink & Netgear. The newer technicians might not be aware of it, but the ones who've been there awhile do. |

| reply to alucky8ball OrlandoGeek, You are correct about the basic support for the popular 4 "Linksys, Belkin, Dlink and Netgear" where our techs will provide basic support for the configuration on any of these devices to work with our equipment. "Any advance configuration will still remain to be referred to the proper manufacturer of each device". We can only provide the basic settings information such as: VPI = 8 VCI = 35 and the type of connection, DHCP or Static.
Personally I would like to learn more about the advance Cisco routers for my own personal knowledge I hope I did not cause any confusion and please let me know if you have any questions Thanks -- Cesar L Embarq Customer Support smnp.cesar.l@embarq.com For additional support and live chat please visit www.myembarq.com/contact_us.php or call 1877-646-3282 Voice | Data | Internet | Wireless | Entertainment |

I borrowed the router from Jeremy and just now tried this. Worked perfectly at my house using DHCP to pull the IP. Thanks for the information.
