What a waste of a feature....

They have got to be kidding me with this crap. Remote DVR scheduling?? Come on, how could this possibly be useful to anyone? Are you that much of a hermit that the one time you leave your house you absolutely must schedule a recording that you somehow forgot about in your haste to depart? Are you so oblivious to whats on TV, that in your travels around the neighborhood you stumble across a billboard ad for a TV show and say to yourself, "WOW! If only I could have my DVR record that!" Well I guess if thats you, then you are in luck with this new "feature". For the rest of us who actually program their DVR's to record ahead of time this is merely a laughable attempt at something (although I am not sure what....)

Clearly you are not a Center Ice subscriber. Most days the channels that will show the HD feeds are not yet available in the guide by the time I leave the house. It is only sometime later (very early morning) that they appear in the guide and I have phone home later in the day to get somebody to set the recording for me. So this is a very welcome feature for me.

I imagine this is a problem for the NBA and MLB packages as well. Anytime there is more programming than available channels you cannot look into the future using the guide and set recordings. Most times the games only show up in the guide at the most the day before they air.

Tivo has been doing this for awhile and I have not heard people complaining, but directv adds a feature to compete with Directv, and the world blows up

You are correct that I am not a Center Ice subscriber, nor do I have DTV. I can tell you however, that TWC lists every sporting event in the guide approximately one week ahead of time (just like they do with all their shows), so this isnt an issue for me. Either way, even things like the debates are listed days in advance on TWC's platform. Perhaps if DTV simply set their guide up normally there wouldnt be a need for this type of "feature". From your description, it does indeed sound like something that is useful to you so I am glad they make it!

I have A Tivo s3 and I have used it a couple of times when i'm was not home. I usually at my daughter house when it might list show that I'm interested in. I'll use her computer and scheduled it. I don't spend every hr looking at a tv guide for programs or watch every channel. So for as no body use it I think you are wrong on that.

Actually, I find this service very handy, as my job requires about 9 months of travel throughout the world a year, most of which time I'm working 12+ hours per day, 7 days a week, and do not have time to watch much TV. Granted, season passes will record automatically, but its the one off shows that I like this feature for!

Maybe you don't travel much, but I can see a use for this. You're on the road and forgot to schedule a show to record. Or, you've been so busy because you have a life and don't sit around looking at the guide. You're on the road and you find out that there's something on tv that you want to watch. Bam! Easy peasy... I think it's a good idea.

If you don't have DirecTV, why so hung up on this?

One good reason for doing this - forget the "REMOTE" moniker. The ability to browse the listings on a web page and schedule the event is far superior to ANY interface available using a remote control and set-top box.

I've been beta testing this for a couple of months, and I don't bother scheduling ANYTHING using the TV/STB interface. I go to the web page, browse around, find what I want, and schedule it. It works. And its far easier/faster/more convenient.

The fact that I can do this at any internet enabled site with a computer, or from a cell phone or PDA? Not features I'm going to use a lot - but very nice to have.

So - enjoy your DVR experience, and those of us who can do it using a web page (ReplayTV, DirecTV, TiVO) will enjoy ours (more!).

Occasionally people hear about shows they might not have heard about before, and decide to give it a look.

Kinda hard to pre-program your DVR for a show that you don't know you want to watch yet.

I can leave myself a to-do note in my phone to set the DVR, or use this new feature. Frankly, this feature gets it done, and I don't have to remember it later on.

Why such a boner about this thing?
