Being a native from Orlando and having family in Lafayette, LA there is indeed a major population difference between the two cities.

I/we don't expect people to know where it is. That is why we say "Orlando" because everyone knows about Orlando and the evil rat (e.g. Mickey) that resides there. Technically the rat resides in Lake Buena Vista, FL - not Orlando, but that's besides the point.
Anyway, the greater Orlando area has far, far more people than the greater Lafayette area. However, just like Orlando...Lafayette is growing as well in population.
