| [DSL] Siemens SpeedStream 4200 Issue
I have the Siemens SpeedStream 4200. Whenever I try to view Myspace, my connection reboots and stays disconnected for about a minute. It only happens with this website. I tried the firmware update & it said 'update failed'. How could I fix this?

Well known bug/issue and it has already been corrected with a Firmware release. Windstream/Alltel hosts the Firmware file on their support pages as announced in the local Windstream DSL Forum.

@alltel.net | I've tried that update, but it keeps saying 'update failed!'. I have the modem connected via ethernet, not usb. It still won't work for me. Any suggestions? |

| What is the name of the file you downloaded?
Is this the error message box you are getting?
You have to be directly connected to the 4200.
You have to use the Ethernet Connection (no USB).
The 4200 must be in Router Mode, not Bridge Mode.

| Not sure how to tell you the name of the file, but I'm getting it from Windstream Support, it says 'Upgrade Siemens Speedstream 4200 modem' & it has a link that you click to download the file & it's called 4200_upgrader.exe .
The box that I'm getting just says 'Update Failed!' - none of that other stuff.
Maybe the problem is that I don't understand the difference between router mode & bridge mode.. :P . Sorry to be such a pain! |

| Telling the name of the file is pretty easy. You are double clicking it in order to run it, correct? If "4200_upgrade.exe" is the filename then that is correct for Modems that end in A12 on the Bottom Label part number.
As to the Mode of the 4100, it is a Router by Default and using it in Router Mode means that you have to enter your Username and Password in the 4200 Web Interface at »192.168.254.254 so that it makes a PPPoE connection to your ISP.
In Bridge Mode means you have made extra effort and changed its function to no longer log in with your Username and Password then also either set your PC to dial a Broadband Connection using a PPPoE Dialer (with your Username and Password) OR you have added a separate Router behind the 4200 made by another company (Linksys, D-Link, Cisco, ZyXEL, 2Wire, Netgear, Belkin, Westell, Buffalo Tech, Motorola, Netopia/Cayman, SMC Networks, 3COM/USR, ETC.) that is making the PPPoE connection when you have set it up with your Username and Password instead of the 4200. If you do have a Router between the Modem and the PC then it must be removed and you have to connect your PC directly to the 4200.
Please look at the bottom label of your 4200 and post the Part Number.

@alltel.net | Ohh, I see. I'm only using the 4200 with the ethernet cable at the time that I try to do the update, otherwise I use the usb. The Part Number is: 060R-D246-A12 . |

| Stop using the USB connection and remove the Software from the PC. Setup the 4200 using Ethernet only and then you can update it.
Ask for any further help you may need in the Windstream DSL Forum.
