[cable] WRT54GL not working with TimeWarner Arris cable modem

A set up that's been working fine for 18 months suddenly stopped working:

WRT54GL router connected to a Arris TW cable box.
If I connect directly to the cable modem I get on Internet.
If I connect through WRT54GL I can't get on Internet.
All lights on the router are looking fine. The router does get IP address from the cable box, but no Internet, no DNS resolution.
I am stuck.
Any ideas?

Try power-cycling modem and router. If you're WRT54GL is getting an IP from TW, ensure the client PC has the correct gateway.

Also, is this a modem with digital phone capability? If so, simply pulling the plug will not power cycle the modem because of the battery backup. You have to find and press the little reset button to complete the power cycle.

Yes.

"If so, simply pulling the plug will not power cycle the modem because of the battery backup. You have to find and press the little reset button to complete the power cycle."

This was the issue, I believe, on the router side. I upgraded to the latest firmware on WRT54GL, the router admin screen indicated that it was running the latest version after the procedure. BUT, the tech support (4 people in a row) never asked me to push the reset button in the back, power cycle it, reconnect to the cable box. (Simple power cycling didn't work.) Once I did that we're back to business.

I don't know why any of this became necessary, since the setup had been working fine for two years and went down out of nowhere.

I didn't know about the digital phone/modem reset issue either. If it acts up again, I'll try that as well.

Thanks very much for the replies.
