| reply to plat2on1 More people should just drop down to the very basic tier. We still get all the network HD channels. Basic tier + cable modem + directv = same damn price I pay to comcast now for their washed out HD. Maybe in two years Fios will come thru York and Comcast will be just another memory. |

So the whole 60 HDs by the end of 08 thing? Yup... Out the window with it... THANK YOU SCIENTIFIC MOTHERF&$KING ATLANTA... Can't make an SD digi-box that meets FCC approval and puts us up the creek... good news if true, i hope the cable industry gets seriously burned by this. they want control control control and i hope it bites them in the ass big time.
said by cypherstream :So the SA box shortage looks like it's going to be a few more weeks out? I guess the F in the FCC stands for something awful! Thanks a lot FCC for that stupid seperate security mandate that doesn't help the customer one bit. i'm no fan of the FCC but its the cable industrys own dam fault for the mess that they have got themselves into. |

| reply to NoPegs It's hard to believe you don't get any complaints about the picture quality. I myself have called two times to inquire about the problem. I even had a service foreman call me at home just to tell me they can't do anything at this time to fix it. Also, if you pay 50.00 a month just for your cable, you are buying a ton of extra programing. Your service used to be free and the premium was half price?? |

| reply to Travelfan1 Answered in order...
1: No, east of the mississippi every market. They don't want the fiasco repeated. hell in moto markets you're limited to one new box per account till further notice... We're rationing the stock of motos. We HAVE NO stock of SAs. It is still bad on both sides of the front. We needs us a Berlin Air-lift of boxes landing at wilkes-barre scranton international airport (AVP) to survive!
2: The killing the self thing was sarcasm, but you know how you feel, you just want to kill something... I'd like to think of it as the japanese do, they call it seppuku... An honorable death, removing yourself from the fight... I'm not *allowed* to kill customers, but I don't think the company has a seppuku policy...
3: YES! The dongle is the savior... I'm ordaining you High Priest of Dongularity! Profess the Faith my Brother!...
4: As always! Just remember to excuse us when we ramble/rant/vent. We're not allowed to do it over the phone, and bitching to/with co-workers gets old real quick. |

| reply to cypherstream I'll answer the questions/statements in order, by paragraph.
It is not the FCCs fault. It is Cisco/SA. they've known the specifications for over a year now and they just can't seem to get it to work within them... Moto can do it just fine, what is SA's problem? hint: $$
They don't have to approve it, per-se. we just have to tell them and give the customers a certain number of days notice.
no comment.
No, see below.
YES! I would spill blood for Science Channel HD... I'd also enjoy History HD, but wouldn't be so zealous in acquiring it as SCI-HD. Blame Cuban, not the robertseseseses... Actually, blame $$ and greed...
Here's the fun stuff...
No, nobody seems to care about the new channels on the phones.
No, nobody seems to be wanting HD boxes because of the new channels. Hell, nobody has mentioned the new channels, it is always us saying "hey, by the way, you got 8 new channels on that HD box you've had for years!"
YES. A THOUSAND TIMES YES!!!! Analog customers KVETCHING. My urge to kill rises! Or is that indigestion... Lets not find out, deal?
Nope. haven't had a single person in my ear say a peep about the pixelation issues... Just you guys on here and me in my own mind seeing it at home.
Lineup? Wassat? I watch Discovery, History, Science, and football... My box is usually on one of those channels or not on at all. I can't speak for it. or rather I will not speak for it because I don't have an opinion on it.
Free?! The cable bill sent to my address monthly is still like $50. :P |

| reply to NoPegs sad news about future additions probably being a long way out, but I can't say I wasn't expecting it to happen. I'm more interested in a solution that nixes 3:1 because even though the stuttering has been less lately, detail is definitely down and there's tons of mosquito noise. |

NoPegs : 1- Is this roll-out on hold thing applicable only to SA areas or to all areas? My system is a Moto-only area. 2- Re customers that want 10 free boxes: People are stupid, I guess, that's the best one can say.... And rather than thinking of killing yourself, just reply back to the customer: May I ask you why do you believe the sat company would give you 10 free boxes? Then if the customer is still an imbecile and thinks he'll get them, then just tell the customer that you'll be transferring him to the downgrade/cancel area. 3- still on the boxes: It may become a non-issue if the DAC dongle works the way Comcast envisions. The DAC dongle would be, IMHO, game, set, match, cable companies. The belief that I have on the DAC dongle is the reason why I believe current Comcast stock prices are extremely low. 4- To finish up, thank you very much for your insights on this topic, they were very helpful. -- Comcast of New Jersey II(Union) Verizon DSL And who would think Eli would outplay Brady... |

2 edits | reply to NoPegs Wow thats some sad news. I hope it's wrong, but I can see where your coming from...
So the SA box shortage looks like it's going to be a few more weeks out? I guess the F in the FCC stands for something awful! Thanks a lot FCC for that stupid seperate security mandate that doesn't help the customer one bit.
There's some 3:1 muxes that we could join up to, like if they move Discovery HD Theater to a 3:1 mux off of AMC 18, we could also get Animal Planet HD and History HD. That's all they really need to do, sounds simple but I know theres a lot of work involved, and the FCC has to approve of every single channel frequency shift (even when it's on a private closed network!). If I had to tell the FCC every time I added a 24 port switch here at work, I'd tell them to F- themselves!
Maybe we can get Hitler a.k.a. Kevin Martin out of the FCC office for so heavily criticizing Cable and making their lives a living hell. Funny, he doesn't give a crap about DirecTV or the Telco's, they seem to do whatever they want and get away with it.
So the call center experience has been hell since the new HD rollout? Is the HD uptake much greater now with the extra channels? Have you noticed a big surge in HD subscriptions?
The only thing I'm really missing is the rest of the Discovery Networks. I'd love to see Science Channel HD, Animal Planet HD, and Travel Channel HD. Other than that, I could really care less if CNN HD or History HD is added. Sure it would be nice, but then I'm wanting them just for sheer HD channel count. I won't even bother asking for HD Net or HD Net Movies, we all know Comcast has a bad taste for those channels (thanks Mr. Cuban and Mr. Roberts for not getting along like the ADULTS you supposedly are).
Let me ask you this, from a CSR perspective... When there's a large HD Channel rollout, what is the major cause and effect on the phones? Is it people calling to report technical problems with the new channels (pixilation, not authorized, etc..)? Is it a mass influx of new subscribers wanting to get HD boxes? Is it massive amounts of analog customers calling to complain why certain channels now require a box? Is it HD "Videophiles" calling to complain about 3:1 HD channel muxes reduces overall video quality on larger screens during fast motion?
I'd be curious to hear a little bit from your point of view. I'm sure you enjoy free Comcast HD service as your an employee, so as a customer yourself, how do you think the current HD lineup fares and is there anything out there that we don't have that you would want to see?
Thanks NoPegs and any Comcast employee the replies with input from their point of view. |

Now it is entirely possible that this is innacurate. I'm just passing on what I was told, and I trust the guy, so if you trust me, you trust him... I have no reason to belive otherwise... We had people *QUITTING* at the call center because of the insane call volume and the overall lack of intelligence from a customer standpoint ( for example "NO YOU CAN'T HAVE EIGHT FREE BOXES, YOU GET *ONE* FREE BOX, THE REST ARE TWO BUCKS A MONTH, EACH! to which customer replies :I want free boxes on all my tvs forever or I'm going to get a dish... It is at that point that I want to suckle on the teat of my 9mm and kiss the world goodbye... (The irony being, if you haven't noticed, that this fictional customer thinks dish/directv is going to give her free boxes too, or doesn't understand that you even need a box to get satellite...
Yeah, the first "wave" of HD additions is probably the last for another 5 or 6 months at the earliest... And it was hell on earth from the 14th of February, through at least the 15th of March in the CPA call centers because of it... |

DNCS Guy is following that thread as well, so I think that thread title will get better help for your situation. This thread is for new HD channels in Central PA, which are now done and over with. This thread really could be locked until 'the next wave' of HD additions (which no one knows when that will take place). |

Wheels, you have the right to complain, definitely, but complaining that much on here isn't going to get you anywhere.
You have a service call for tomorrow, they're coming to take a look at the problem. |
