| Way overmoderated and censored here ????
I admit I don't come here much but have been since the new IMG and whats going on with the moderators ? I cant recall a board so overly censored and heavy handed.
I see thread after thread closed or deleted with nothing I could see wrong in them. (not anything to do with me)
I notice posts gone that I remember seeing before in threads and again nothing I could see wrong in them. (not any of mine)
Just seems way overboard for a TV message board. |

4 edits | reply to rkkeller I don't think you are going to get much agreement on this one. I don't know how many forums you visit, but I follow quite a few and its the same old thing: repeat after repeat of the same thing.
On some forums, people ask the same questions over and over because they didn't bother to use the search function and/or read the thread they are posting in that already has the answer and/or read the thread 2 above the one they are posting in that has the question they are asking as the title.
On this forum, people open thread after thread of IMG complaints, rants, and questions when there is already a BIG STICKY at the top that politely asks folks to keep the rants/bugs/questions in the bugs thread, and questions about location availability in the other IMG thread, both which are also STICKY at the top.
Not to mention the repeated, "Do I need a STB with FiOS tv" and "When are we getting more HD channels?" questions. Honestly, search is your friend people. The way it works is: have question, search for answer to question, then post question when search yields no answer.
I had to laugh the other day when the update was pushed because there was yet another thread of "IMG patched released..." with people listing the same bugs and complaints as already stated in every other thread created for whatever area the patch has already been rolled out in.
Sorry, you are getting no cosigning from me on this forum being "overmoderated" or "censored." In my opinion, compared to a few other forums I visit, this one is pretty relaxed with locking threads and the people are pretty patient and tolerant of the repeat posts as well.
And that ends my rant. [/rant] |

| reply to rkkeller Come on though, how many different topics would this forum have to talk about if it wasn't for the IMG. It's not easy to wade through 2 all inclusive threads. People come here to post about the IMG, HD, set up/install questions and billing issues. Why not just make this forum 4 threads and be done with it if they want to start limiting topics? |

2 edits | reply to rkkeller Here Here Rkkeller! I applaud your bravery.
It probably has to do with the fact that there is some type of a VZ Press Release or rehash of an old story on the front page every other day. |

3 edits | reply to rkkeller I don't think they are limiting topics. You are free to have topics on whatever you choose. What they are doing is keeping the forum orderly, hopefully so stuff is easy to find. It does no one any good to have a question regarding the IMG and having 100 different IMG threads where that particular question is hidden in any 1 of the threads.
I agree, sometimes threads get long, making them tough to navigate (and certainly daunting to read), but at the same time, its very tough to navigate 100 threads all on the same topic as well. Then you have no choice but to read ALL of the threads instead of just searching 1 thread for what it is you want.
Further, how does one keep a complete list of what bug is associated with which version of the IMG if the comments are all spread out on the forum? Imagine if there were 100 thread on HD channels, but only one thread had the post you were looking for that had the link to a press release regarding the next set of channels available on fios?
I dunno, I don't see a problem with gently asking folks to keep their comments in the same place. After gently asking (multiple times), moderators stop asking and starting doing (by locking threads). |

| reply to JeepMatt With the exception of the "IMG Thread" rule, I agree wholeheartedly. That IMG rule is needed IMO.
Threads on other sections of BBR are allowed to go where they may and vigorous debate is allowed to continue in the style of the debating posters. In this area, it seems like you're much more limited in where you can take a discussion and in debating issues in your style of debate.
As far as I can tell, this is the most restrictive section of BBR. |

| reply to rkkeller Honestly, the IMG sticky is getting way too big and hard to follow. Sometimes some topics that are discussed there get lost and you would need to sift thru lots of pages to find a topic and hopefully some responses. If it should be moderated, it will be nice to put the main topics discussed in the first page so that people can read to see if their particular issue has been pointed out already. And then search within the thread. I understand it won't be a catch all, but at least the main discussions.
Just a suggestion. |

| reply to rkkeller I think its time for a new IMG thread, related to the latest patch. That would help. It might would have helped with all the duplicate posts related to this release, which might have kept all the various threads from getting locked in the first place. |

| reply to rkkeller I don't know, maybe open a new IMG thread once a week until things die down. A new person is not going to want to come here and sift through a 15 page thread hoping to find an answer for the problem. SGR's faq thread was perfect when he started it back in September but all the pertinent info needs to be in the first posting of the thread all the time. |

Thats the key part, the pertinent info remaining at the beginning. Most other forums I visit, at least the "heavily moderated" ones, there is one thread per topic and the pertinent info is updated in the first post. Even then, people still ask the same questions, or post the same comments over and over.
I guess the key point to make is, moderated or not (censored or not), the people not willing to read first are always going to repeat post, no matter "organized" and "available" the thread content is. |

As to the level of moderation its not really anything more than the need to keep a bit of order as without it the forum was turning into an IMG forum. |

If the forum is turning into an IMG forum, perhaps that is what people want to talk about. Because they all love the new IMG of course and can't stop talking about how great it is. There is plenty to talk about.
I've never seen any threads removed that had to do with what a great INSTALL someone had, or how much they LOVE FIOS. |

| Hey Moderator, How about threads for each problem people are finding wrong with the new IMG. It's too confusing with one thread. If someone has a problem with the DVR that should be one, if the remote doesn't work, if VOD has a problem, etc. This way it's easy to find other people with the same problems. |

| No matter which way you hash it, there's tons of info, and indeed it is hard to keep up. --Maybe the only way to coordinate all this info,is to have someone manually create a daily-digest of the thoughts/ideas of the day, then post that. --Then wipe everything out of that particular forum & start over for the next day. Condensation & consolidation is key, but it will be a manual process. |
