A simple link to check security settings...

This is an old link and the site of an old good friend of DSLR, »www.jasons-toolbox.com/BrowserSecurity/. It's one that can be very useful for those that are new to computers and/or security settings and what to do. There are some very useful programs on this site as well. I just thought it was time for a reminder that everyone is not up to snuff and might like a simple place to start with the addition of coming here, which is another thing Jason suggests.

The site functions as you described.

I'm happy to report I seem to have passed all tests.

Likewise. At least some of us are "up to snuff."

Well, it wasn't really that tough to pass those.
Merely having javascript disabled for that site and using Firefox (no ActiveX) fits the bill.
And a couple of cookie settings, I guess.

But it's meant for the average garden-variety user, and does in fact test and inform well to its purposes.

I give the site 'two thumbs up'.

It wasn't so much for a testing purpose that I posted that link but that works as well. I think that there are some good programs to be used too such as Script Sentry for anyone who wants to try it. I think that we sometimes get carried away here with the technical aspects and forget how difficult it was to even understand the language of security when just starting out or slightly further than that. The links that Name Game posted are also excellent and bring us all back to basics just a bit. That never hurts.

Well said.....yes it is so very easy to forget that many porters here have no idea what is being said....so it may not be of any use to them. I recall years ago wondering what a Firewall was.....to me that was a brick wall erected between homes to help prevent the spread of fire.

Actually I notice numerous long time members of the Forum that have absolutely no idea about anything regarding security. They may have become a member years ago but have remained Newbe's.

Frankly I most enjoy helping the newly arrived Newbe although it can be time consuming.

Anyways.....have a good night

Ah! What memories those links bring. You shouldn't have posted those (especially the Archive list). I just spent a lot of time reading the first two again ...noting old friends...and then I made the "mistake" of looking at the Archived Threads and read several of them including the one involving Steve Gibson that I had totally forgotten... great thread..really though, mahalo for the trip back in time to around when I joined this site. It's good to look at our roots every now and again ....see where we started and how far we have come.

JKK, mahalo to you also for reminding all of us about Jason's Toolbox. I did some of my security "teething" on that site and it remains a favorite. I still use Script Sentry on all my computers and recommend it highly.
