So far install not going good

Well I ordered U-verse when I found out the it launched in my area ( Volo, IL) They came out yesterday to try to install it.

I knew there were going to be issues when between the two techs they couldnt figure out how to fish the line in from the outside.

They got to my home around noon and finally at 1:30 the line was fished through. They then went down to the box and discovered a issue with something about 2 numbers were issued or something like that, so they had to call another truck to fix that.

As they waited for that tech to come the finished hooking everything up in the house. If I remember right around 3 or so the other tech was finished outside and we plugged everything in. Got all green across the board. I had no internet and the DVR box was failing on the update.

They called in to tech support and they had 'em replace the RG. Again got green across the board, no internet, dvr still fails. So they replace the DVR unit. DVR unit finally updates, no internet still, and then DVR gives a client error. The other two boxes upstairs are failing on the update.

After spending hours on the phone. Which that alone was a mad house, both techs had their supervisors on the phone who had each other on the phone who had tier 2 on the phone who had two other departments on the phone. It was pretty funny cause both techs burnt up the battery on their ATT cell phones then they had to switch to their personal phones then somewhere along the line my house phone came in to play.

Finally at 11:05 pm yes thats right both techs left my house. I still had no TV and no internet. It is now 10:50 am and I still have no TV and no internet with ATT. I had to hook my comcast crap back up.

So far my ATT is not fun.

The concept is nice and the price is right... the implementation so far sucks.

It comes down to not knowing once you get into the real world. The techs can test and prep, but things will never be as perfect and easily resolved as when you are in a class learning to install the service. As they get more experienced, things will get better for others. Unfortunately for you, they are still learning. I hope it gets connected and going for you.

I wish they had used local employees first to iron out the kinks. I hate hearing stuff like this....

They are "local", just newbies like you and I once were. Remember all the good times you and I and Rick had trying to troubleshoot NIC's and 5861's back in the day?

Ahh, the good 'ol days. On a side note, I see mandatory overtime rearing it's ugly head this spring. The McHenry techs have been overwhelmed cleaning up the U-verse guys' messes.

Yeah...but still. Maybe I've changed over time but I just can't stand incompetence....plus I want to see Uverse take off.
These first install will really set the tone for word of mouth I think.

They should be sending out reg install techs with the U-verse guys. You can tell them by the trucks they drive. All (40) of the ones in our area are F150's with tall caps on them. I remember the 3+ hour DSL installs when we were doing dry loops. Had to run IW and install NIC's and deal with obsolete win95 and 98. These guys are in a worse situation due to the amount of work involved. Some of the managers have never been in the field or even see a piece of IW until they were trained.

Dennis; do you know who the area manager is for the U-verse guys? I do!!

Well they sent out another tech today. HEHE before he got to my house I had dial tone. He has left and now I still have no TV, no internet, and now no dial tone. On the phone with customer care due to the fact the tech left with out telling me what the heck is going on for tomorrow.

They are suppose to be coming back out but he couldnt get through to dispatch. I am requesting that a supervisor comes out on the job as well. I just hope the sups are not new like the techs are. This is getting very very annoying.

I am the first in my area to get this and all my neighbors are waiting for the yay or nay before they order. LOL trying to hold off on scaring them away. Although there is that couple down the street that dont clean up their dog crap, maybe ill call them and tell them to hurry up and order!

I think with every new service will come troubled installs, Verizon had the same trouble with FiOS during its early years.

I would however be asking for credit on your uverse account for every day that its not working.

Well good news I am fully up and running, well sort of. The issue was somehow in the system my order duplicated a few times and it took tier 2 awhile to get that all sorted out.

I do have one bad set top box that refuses to take the update so they are sending someone out tomorrow to replace it ( Ya I am a ass for making em come on superbowl Sunday hehe)

My only other issue none of my other two working TVS can not access the on damand for stuff like HBO, Showtime, etc.

But other then that seems to be good. The supervisor that came out today will be talking to sales about credits to the account for all the mishaps.

I had my install today. The install tech called and came out an hour early (fine with me), but there were problems from the start. I had no dial tone in the house but it was previously wired. The tech was unable to get a trace on the wire and ended up having to run a new wire outside the building. A level 2 tech had to come out and put up a new box outside the building for the run. It all works fine but the install took six hours. The tech was good but smelled like a homeless person.

Do we need a sticky that says "Warning: If Uverse is new to your region, please expect at least a 2 day window for complete installation due to this being...well new"

Well I actually left my third box on all night and at some point it took the uploads so it is working now. Also this morning they fixed my VOD issue with the movie channels. The only bummer is they dont offer the local VOD like comcrap did.

So now I am off to cancel my comcast woohooo. I also update in a day or so when I find out what ATT is going to do for the install problems.

Thing is, it isn't that new anymore. We have launched how many markets now? This sort of stuff should have started to slow down and disappear by now.
