| My Acanac Recommendation!
Hi Everyone,
I'm a new member here at dslreports.com. I signed up about 3 weeks ago after I became very frustrated with the idea of Rogers cable (www.rogers.com) installing a monthly bandwidth cap.
Being an avid usenet user, I was exceeding my monthly cap by sometimes double or triple the limit. This was never a problem until I began to receive overage warnings from Rogers.
Anyways, mid January I contacted Acanac phone sales after finding them on Google. Aside from Rogers and Bell, Acanac seemed to be the only other reliable offering in my area (Toronto, Ontario).
I ordered my service from them around ~Jan. 20th I believe. I paid for a full year of 5mbit DSL, modem rental and a year of dryloop service since I have a digital phone in my house. I wasn't worried about being ripped off since they offer a 30 day moneyback guarantee.
I received my modem within 4 business days and when I connected it into the wall I didn't have any service at first. This was fine since the packaging instructions mention that service can take 7 days to activate in Ontario. Thinking nothing of it, I simply put the modem aside and figured I'd wait a few more days.
The next day a Bell repair worker showed up at my house to fix my "lines". Although I wasn't expecting him at all, I was very impressed that Acanac/Bell worked this all out on their own. After about an hour of installation I then had a working phone jack right beside my new modem!
I plugged in my modem and... WTF! 39kb/s max download speed! I contacted Acanac phone support for assistance with my horrible download speed and I was told that my line was not setup to handle 5mbit speeds yet. This problem lasted 2 or 3 days before the problem was fixed and my download speeds increased.
So here's my current situation as of today:
For my business / personal internet I am still using Rogers. I am using the Rogers Lite package which is great enough for YouTube, gaming, etc.
For my downloads I am using the 5mbit DSL service offered from Acanac. I am downloading at an average of 750kb/s (I was honestly expecting 200-300) which floored me. I'm so happy with the speed!
If Acanac proves to be reliable for the month of Feb. I will be contacting Rogers and cancelling my Internet with them all together.
Good work Acanac! You impressed me bigtime! |

| So you are paying for a 5mbit download service and get an average of 750kbit and are happy with it? That mean that your downloads are usually less than 100kBytes per second. I really can't understand. |

| reply to cdnbacon Sorry about that confusion.
I indeed meant 750 KB/s. That almost rivals my 8mbit Rogers service I had before I went to the 18mbit.
Anyways, all is still AMAZING! I've been downloading as much as I need to and I don't believe I've experienced any downtime yet!
As for the Free Bell Technician, the house call was free but I did pay $100 for the custom jack install. Gotta pay for convenience |

Much like you, I came to Acanac from Rogers as well, and even if all this did go through, I still wouldn't consider going back to them... |
