Newsgroups... id/pass/other...

Dear all - what server and id/pass would we get on VZ FiOS newsgroup?

Thank you all...

Update: Right - I was never given any id/pass during installation... why don't they give it to us? or is it someplace, I just do not know that I do have it...

Re: Newsgroups... id/pass/other...

It'd be the ID/Pass you log in to the start.verizon.net website... Which is usually your primary email address at Verizon.

The news server is: news.verizon.net

Your U/N and P/W are whatever you use to log onto your account or email on verizon.net (NOT verizon.com).

Do not be surprised if your D/L speeds from the Verizon NNTP servers are (normally) abysmally slow and nowhere near your 20 Mb/s provision (sometimes more like dial-up speeds). That's just a fact of life, unfortunately.

Re: Newsgroups... id/pass/other...

You're not "given" a username and password, you create one.

If the tech didn't have you complete this procedure at the time of your installation, you'll need to call the FSC (1-888-553-1555).

Or, if you know your data order number, go to activatemyfios.verizon.net and start from there.
Your data order number will need to be prefixed by "ICOG" if you're a new customer, "CCOG" if you migrated from DSL, or "MCOG" if you had an account previously and moved to a new location.

If you are migrating from Verizon DSL (my case, tomorrow) wouldn't the username & password be the same as before? Or, do you still have to activate your FiOS account?

I will not be running any Verizon software on my machine(s) and have no premium portal - plain verizon.net.

The tech is required to adhere to a procedure that utilizes the "Tech Wizard".
It's nothing more than a 1GB USB drive that contains a script that updates/optimizes the router's firmware/settings and initiates the activation process.

When the Tech Wizard has finished, you, the customer, should take-over the PC and complete the process. Since you already have a verizon.net account then you'll only need to enter the password.
You'll have the option for a "Standard Installation" or a "Custom Installation". Choose custom for your stated reasons.

Good luck.
