I guess I'll start us off.

I myself have been very partial to Norton's antivirus, due to the actual protection that it has given me, the speed of its manual scan, and its real-time protection, along with the LiveUpdate feature.

On a previous machine, I had McAfee installed (it was a P3/500 w/ a Voodoo3, 32MB's of RAM initially, and Win98SE); I myself did not care for its speed (considering that this was a waaaayyyyy long time ago), and its actual protection stunk; not to mention, since the OEM (Gateway) had stopped its subscription with them, we were forced to either pay or have out-dated protection, in which we were stuck . Also, from what a buddy of mine had told me, version 6 of McAfee was not much better. So, to that effect, I give my vote to Norton, for Symantec has proven to me that they are by no means a "generic crap" company.

Norton for me too - Virus free in all the time I've used it. And as said by C0deZer0, Live Update automatically takes care of the virus definition file updates (and program updates) too.

I have no use for anti-virus programs since I never open attachments or do things that can cause a potential virus. And *if* I do need to scan I just use »housecall.antivirus.com/pc_housecall/

Used to use McAfee 4.5 but ever since IE6, their download and internet scanning features would not work. They do not plan to make a patch to fix it either. They said in the next release of Mcafee it would be fixed.....screw 'em. So I went with Norton.

Norton Anti Virus.

Story:
A friend of mine has McAfee on his laptop, and it loads 3 icons in his system tray, each taking forever, takes up more ram than my NAV, the settings are unclear and hard to find, it's interface is broken into 3 windows, and does just as good of a job as Norton, while Norton is easier (not my priority, but still) , smaller, and scans my OUTgoing e-mail, not just incomming.

Plus, I got Norton System Works 2002, so I got more than just Anti Virus anyway.

At work, we started using Trend. I haven't been converted over from NAV yet, so I don't know how it works. A lot of people are complaining that it slows down their machines dramatically.

None as of now but I had McAfee. Once I upgrade to XP and got the Xp update it really lagged my system. I am going to try Norton now.

I use Ontrack's System Suite which includes Trend Micro Antivirus on my XP box.

I use AVG on my Win2K box and PC-Cillin (which came with the motherboard) on my W98se Box

When I got XP, nothing that I had would work with it, so I decided to give Ontrack's System Suite a try since it was XP compatible and I got several useful utilities along with the Anti-Virus.

They all seem to work OK - have never gotten a virus (that I know of), but I am very careful with downloads and e-mail.

Just replaced AVG with NAV. No complaints with AVG, it did its job a couple times, I just wanted something that has more frequent updates. I also use IPE.

I have Norton Antivirus 2001, and it works really well, except sometimes I have trouble getting my subscription restarted each year. I just did the Live Update today, and noticed afterwards that the Norton Internet Security icon was not in system tray like it normally is. Has this happened to anyone else? I used my Drive Image 5.0 to get it back like normal, and then just updated the virus definitions.

Panda 6.0 here.....it works great so far. I never know it is there running which is good compared to some I have tried. I was using Inoculate before I started using XP, but it wasn't compatible with XP otherwise I'd still be using that. I used it for two years without getting a single virus.

Trend Micro through OnTrack SystemSuite for me. They keep their definitions very up-to-date. It seems like they usually have a couple of updates a week. It is all very seamless and easy to use.

I have never had a virus with it. My family has encountered a few while downloading and emailing, but they have all been caught and cleaned by TrendMicro. It scans files on the fly and doesn't seem to slow down performance at all. It does seem to slow down the opening of email messages however.

I basically bought this because it is part of a nicely integrated utility package. The new version 4.0 of SystemSuite includes a firewall from Sygate and a large number of other useful utilities.

I have used McAfee in the past and we currently use McAfee at work. We seem to be always getting viruses at work and I think McAfee has handled them all. I did use Inoculate IT at home for a few months before I got the Ontrack suite. I remember liking Inoculate quite a bit. I was running so many free utilities that it was getting a bit confusing, so I chucked them all for one nicely integrated package which cost me about $45. I have far fewer conflicts now and still no viruses.

I use InnoculateIT on my W98SE and W2k partitions, AVG on XP. I'm very satisfied with Innoculate.
