[HSI] just got my comcast notice

I guess Im switching over to Comcast, I got an email about my grandfathered static IP and Im going to lose it. Man, I really dont want to deal with Comcast at all, but I have nothing else.
Im losing my static IP! This STINKS!!!!! Already hate em.
Someone please help me out here and tell me something good about switching to Comcast from Patmedia. I had 20mb speeds, never had a single issue, been rock steady. And hmm. I just checked tonight and my speed is at 11mb.
Someone tell me something good, PLEASE!!!!

It was inevitable that the local nature of Patmedia would fade, once the sale was announced. I am also concerned about having the presence of a big cable company in the home, but I'm also looking forward to FIOS as competition (sometime during my lifetime)

add my name to the future fios list. The prices just went up again. So now i am just waiting for the verizon people to knock on my door. Comcast likes to price out its customers.

I wonder if we will get the Comcast Tivo DVR option?

Does anyone know what will happen to our "@patmedia.net" email addresses?

You will probably lose your email address soon, honestly why would you tie yourself to your cable provider for email?
You should get yourself a gmail account.

comcast tivo is barely available (boston only) in its existing systems, what makes u think it will be available in patmedia's system anytime soon. you probably won't even see a big lineup revamp for a while.

Comcast wants you to have an @comcast email address, not @patmedia. It's free advertising for them to have their name in your email address. Years ago Comcast took over E. Brunswick and they got 3 days notice that their email was changing according to my friend who lives there. Hopefully today email is more engrained and they realize it will take more than 3 days to change my email at the hundreds of places that have it. And no I'm not going to change it to @comcast, I've got my own domain now so I'm not linked to my ISP.

why people don't use yahoo, gmail etc for email is beyond me. i've had the same yahoo email address for 10 yrs. and i've changed isp's 3 times.

@patmedia.net

I like the idea of being able to use MS Outlook to read/track my messages, I have messages going back years.

However, I just noticed that gmail supports IMAP mail so maybe I'll try that. Not sure if any of the other services offers it for free.

Gmail also supports smtp & pop, as does Lavabit.

Fastmail & AIM (the free AOL mail)support IMAP.

If you could get through a little German, GMX.net, is a great provider that's been around for years, that provides free pop & smtp along with 1 Gig of storage. Gmail, I believe, gives you more than 6 Gigs.

By the way comcast will be calling you about a special promotion for the people with static ip's. You pay a little more but get fasters speeds and still keep your static ip.
