| Although apple is party responsible for the shortcomings of the IPhone, but I'd blame ATT this time around.
You can't do VOIP over an anemic EDGE network. Now if Apple would have gone with Sprint, we would have already been using VoIP.
Even my 2 year old PPC6700 phone can do 800-1.1mbit. The most I've seen on edge is 130k... now that's sad. |

I think it is funny since people with real phones have had the ability to use VoIP over the WiFi and even the cellular connection for quite sometime! -- Make your Sipura/PAP2 speak. »www.voipurize.com SouthWest Louisiana PC Users Group »www.swlapcug.com |

| reply to jebba2005 Exactly, Windows Mobile is a proper OS (lets not go there) that doesn't get locked down at the whim of each carrier. I'm going to guess (don't know these too well) that Symbian and Palm also are proper OSes with open APIs which aren't arbitrarily limited by phone manufacturers or cell carriers. |

Dude... check this out... I've been a sprint customer for 11 years. I have 3 sprint phones under my account. I have an ATT crackberry from work which I pulled its SIM card from and popped it in an 8gig iPhone I picked up from my coworker for 200 bucks.
More so... I have a verizon data card in my work backpack. The only network I don't get to play with is T-Mo's.
I asked a buddy of mine to lend me try his tmo sim on my iphone... i had to get near the window to get signal... so T-mo's crap to me. |

Why exactly do they want you to pay hundreds of dollars for something and then not let you do whatever you want with it.. What does it hurt them to let you do what you want with it?? |

| reply to patcat88 said by patcat88 :Get a real PDA phone with a real OS and a real API. I am going to assume that you have not programmed in the iPhone's API. I spent this weekend doing it and it is a full version of OS X with the new UIKit that supports fully animated views, layers, transparency, access to the Address Book API, access to the accelerometers, OpenGL or Quartz for drawing, and an iPhone simulator.
You develop in Objective-C on Xcode just as you do for desktop apps. The full Cocoa frameworks are available as well as the full OpenBSD layer.
As of now, you have to programmatically develop the interface elements of window, views, animations, buttons, sliders, switches, and there is a full touch events API for getting all the various combinations of multi-touch actions. Interface Builder will be supported in the final version and will make constructing the interface many times easier. |

You don't need a lot of bandwidth for voice. 5-10K tops. |
