| reply to hottboiinnc Re: FIOS ? Who can get that ?
said by hottboiinnc :Thats the thing. Who wants to be tied into a two year contract for their internet, phone and cabletv? i sure don't. If i want to change for any reason i want the option to especially if its due to service issues. You don't need to be "tied" into a contract... You can signup at current rates, which are still better than the cable company... I (and many others) had horrible service from Cablevision... Pixelation, horrible signals, etc... Multiple tech calls could never resolve the problems... I have not had ONE problem with FIOS yet... No pixelation on the TV, crystal clear and the internet (from what I can tell) has never gone down once.. For me, the contract is a major bonus.. I don't switch services every year, since there would be no reason too... The only options are FIOS and Cablevision... FIOS saves me $60/month and offers much much more, so it is clear that FIOS is the better choice.
You can switch back, but you forfeit $149.... I don't ever see a reason why I'd need to switch back. FIOS is simply amazing compared to cable.

| As you said, you have not have any problems yet. I have had Optimum Online, TV, and Phone for just about three years and I have not had any problems. My download is consistently around 11 megs and my upload is usually around 1 meg (and no, I do not subscribe to Boost). My parents on the other hand supposedly had numerous problems with the Optimum Online services. They had both TV and Internet, and the pixelation and loss of Internet was horrible. Every user's experience is vastly different - as can be noticed by most of the reviews on these forums. The switched to DSL and DirecTV a while back, and thus far they were be happy.
Honestly though, if you compare the rates between Optimum and FIOS in NJ the services are about the same. Where as FIOS has some channels that Optimum subscribers would want, FIOS charges more for a HD DVR box, HD subscription, etc. So in my opinion, the only thing that Verizon has really done for this state anyway is.... provided another way to bundle all your services. They have not caused either Comcast or Optimum to lower prices in an effort not to lose customers. Only time will tell who the real winner is between these two. | |
