Lotus Notes, Local Encryption of Databases

I need help. I'm the only IT person at a small company. I run a network with 20 workstations, and 30 laptops with VPN access to netowrk resources. I run Lotus Notes, and I have been using it for over a year and a half with no problems, but now I have a problem that has completely stumped me. One of the agents using Notes came to me complaining that his address book type-ahead was not working. I should note that he can send and receive email with no trouble. I checked his type-ahead settings and realized they were fine and he was able to use type-ahead to address messages from his personal address book. I realized the problem was with the company's address book. I removed both his server and local copies of the company address book from the workspace. Then I opened the address book on the server, and replicated a new local copy of the address book, giving the new copy a unique file name. I went to the workspace, and made sure he could open the local copy of the address book, and he could so with no trouble. I then added that file name into the local address books list in the User Preference's Mail tab and got the error "This database has local access protection and you are not authorized to access it locally." I hadn't seen this error before, so I did some research and IBM suggested that I go into the User Security's Notes Data tab and select Do Not Locally Encrypt. I did this, and then cleared both the server and local copies from the workspace and then reopened the server copy, and replicated a fresh local copy with a different file name. When I tried to enter it into the local address book's list, I got the same error. I then brought a new copy of his ID file from my machine, and copied it into his data folder. I created a new local copy as above and got the error again. I then edited his notes.ini file and added the file name of the address book. When I reopened Lotus Notes, the file name was in the local address books list but he was still unable to use it to address a message as he can with all the other files that are that list. THIS IS DRIVING ME MAD. I though this might be the only place where i can find someone to help me, so please, please, please help if you are able.

1) Why did you give "the new copy a unique file name" ? I suspect when you do that it's a static copy now, not a "replica".

2) Under File, User Preferences, (can't remember if there's add'l steps) is a field for specifying the address book(s) filename(s). You can list multiple ones, seperated by a comma.

Did you check each of his location preferences to see what the settings are for his type ahead?

ie. "local then server" is the default for office(under the mail tab), but if he's switched his location(s) then his alternate location settings might not be properly configured to find the address books.

I seen this issue last week. The OP failed to mention if he was connected via vpn or 2 the network in the office when the issue. Poked it's head.

I have found that moving the nsf and address book files via usb thumb drive. Have caused corruption and caused the encrypted copies to never work correctly , OP did you use usb or did you do a network transfer ? Also make sure they are in the same location on each machine. This some times makes notes throw a tizzy.
