[Speed Issues] Please post speed test results

I'm paying for 5 megs and getting less than 3 megs. I've had 4 service calls at my house with no solution. Charter tells me there is nothing wrong, I'm getting 5 megs. (what their test on their end shows) and their is nothing they will do.

Please post your Speed Test Results and what you are paying Charter for.

I need to show this to Charter and tell them they are wrong, either fix the problem or only charge me for 3 megs.

Thanks

Yep,
Running a little slow today on my 5Mb package!! Testing from FURTHEST site away from me. Never have figured out why anyone would want to test from the closest site to them? I mean, how often do you download anything on the net from right next door?

Download Speed: 4900 kbps (612.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 487 kbps (60.9 KB/sec transfer rate)

Try using a better test site.

I couldn't be happier. I have 5 Meg service
4906 kb = 4.9 Meg download

Factor in the tcp overhead loss and I am getting all that I am paying for.

Don't know if that's a "better" site but:

Well, I'm paying for ten and I am getting this.

Last Result:
Download Speed: 2374 kbps (296.8 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 976 kbps (122 KB/sec transfer rate)

I've been on the phone (off and on) with the Techs (Canada and Philippines) since 8 am. My last conversation was at around 3pm. They say my low speeds are because I am running a router. I had to hang-up and try again on some of my calls (that were routed to the Philippines) as I could not understand the tech.

Send me your MAC address with model of modem. I will take a look at it. We finally got things worked out with WV and now have 4 OC-48's online as of about 3am last night. We are keeping a close eye on it for the next couple of days for final tweaking. Hoping to be done with this for a bit by the end of the week.

4771 down and 993 up? If you aren't on the phone with them everyday till they fix it, shame on you!

They came out again yesterday, the fifth tech I've had in 6 months. They FINALLY replaced the modem and (BINGO!), that was the problem. Getting the 5 megs I've been paying for since they went to 5 megs., a year are more ago.

It's true, per the Greenville newspaper, Charter is at the bottom of list of company customer satisfaction.

Been there, done that. Has absolutely nothing to do with something else besides Charter. You Charter people keep blaming everything on everyone else but yourselves. Keep telling me if there was a problem it was my computer. So, I bought a new computer for myself at Christmas. Same problem.

Spoke with a tech out of British Columbia a couple months back. He said he showed a "possible" problem with the modem and he would put on the service call he scheduled with me to have the tech replace it for sure. Two techs came and went since then, no new modem. Said nothing was wrong with it.

But, as I just posted, a tech came yesterday and replaced the modem and I'm now getting what I've been paying the idiots at Charter for.

The thing is, yesterday I heard the tech and the female person he was talking with on the phone while he was checking my system and she was was almost defiant with the tech saying "he's getting 5 megs". The same thing they were telling me when I called and complained. They don't or won't do anything if they can get around it.

I won't to khow many more Charter customers are paying for service they aren't getting.

sorry to hear that you don't want any help. If that is the way you want to work toward a resolution then so be it. Others that are having an issue please let me know or post on the other topic of slow speeds in the upstate and I will do what I can. I believe we have the pop connection fixed and we still have some areas that have some contention that is on the road map to be fixed soon and I will let you know if you are in one of those area's. thanks

I am in Greer, SC in a fairly new subdivision.I had the 5mb package earlier this week, but the speeds were so slow in the afternoon/evening/night hours that surfing the web and using xbox live was rediculous. Download speeds were well below 2mb, but were fluctuating nonstop. Ping to speedtest.net's georgia site was above 999ms. After MANY calls to Charter tech support, I agreed to have tech come out and check the line. No problem he reported, but told my wife that "Evening and night hours are when the most people are on, so speeds will be slow then."
Allrighty then, thank you for your college level response to my problem Handy Mandy. I called Charter back that day and had the speed adjusted to 10mb package. I get home and do the speed test, and I average only around 3-5mb download and half the upload speed. I call Charter the next morning and get a modem replacement, SB5101 to replace my Toshiba PCX2200. Upload speed goes to 1mb, but still same shitty download speeds. When I check in the mornings, the speed is just as I pay for, 10 down, 1 up. But after 2 PM, you can forget about it. I just want to know when it's going to be fixed, because it hasn't been like this before the past 3 weeks/month, so what gives Charter?
