All companies, public and private, must be concerned about their earnings and share price. Their profitability and EPS affects their ability to attain capital.

Council Bluffs, IA		 Hence why the article says as much. Obviously companies want to make as much money as possible, but without having to worry about whiny ass'd shareholders, they are able to take a risk that should bode well for them in this case.
