Where can I find out what fan my laptop needs?

Hello all - my laptop fan is making a seriously nasty grinding noise. It seems to be working "fine" - but it's very obnoxious.

Where can I find out (and buy) the fan model that will fit in there so that I can replace it? I know pulling a laptop apart isn't easy but I'm game for it.

Thanks guys.

When I needed parts for my Gateway CX2610 I did an e-bay search for "Gateway CX2610 CPU Fan" and found lots of stuff and just bought one from a reputable seller.

I'd suggest you go the the laptop manufacturer's website and check for parts, they usually have diagrams and photos of how to take and replace them
I know Dell has that on their site, hope this helps

without knowing the make and exact model of laptop, I can not give you spcific answers, and generic ones may or may not work out.

Unfortunately, unlike desktops computers, parts for notebook systems can be very limited. Although there may be some less expensive "generic" fans that would fit, the safe bet is to order directly from your notebook manufacturer.

It is true that sometimes you can get third-party parts, and as long as they work, that is great, but if you go that route, do be careful!

Frankly, even at inflated manufacturer's prices, the fan should not cost very much, so might as well get the exact fit, right?
