Yup.... agreed it's repetitive, but at $1,000 for the winner, for a first attempt... We'll make the change(s) on the second battle.

Yeah, I also had a great time

Server suggestions:
-Please fix the bug that disconnects you after certain games
-auto team balance?
-quicker respawns (some were good others were around 15 seconds)
-More maps in the rotation: 2fort, well, wellCTF, maybe some custom maps like OrangeCross2
Of these points, I agree with all of them (particularly the map, Dustbowl got old after the umpteenth time), except for the quicker respawns; they were fine as they are, as shorter respawns would drag things on.

Had an awesome time tonight, and enjoy playing with you guys. I saw some really excellent team-play going down, so it's not all people going for k:d. It was way more fun.

Server suggestions:
-Please fix the bug that disconnects you after certain games
-auto team balance?
-disable players from seeing/cycling through the other team views while waiting to respawn
-quicker respawns (some were good others were around 15 seconds)
-More maps in the rotation: 2fort, well, wellCTF, maybe some custom maps like OrangeCross2
-beg someone to help install HLstatsx

I'm playing for fun and won't come close to the prize, and it sounds like TSI will stick to what they originally offered for the prize/rules (it's their prerogative). Maybe hold a public vote in the forum to see how many people wouldn't mind this week being a test run and cancel the prize? Then establish a new setup, test more, get feedback, hold official tourney?

Either way, it's nice to see the server being used now. Rocky and all, thanks very much for running this server, and the tournament!

Why is there no autobalance on the server? there's 5 on 2 at times and it's real annoying.

I agree with the general problems with the current scoring system, as I understand it. Using a pure kill/death ratio is going to encourage some stupid gameplay styles, like setting up a turret at the final capture point and hiding behind it all game, even though it's a 3v2 game and the other player on your team is asking you to switch classes to help so it's not 3v1 almost all the time (This happened to me for several games, if you can't tell). It also means it's in your best interest to disconnect if you're outnumbered, which is bound to happen a lot when there are only 5 or fewer people on the server. This is not fun.
Have you looked at using hlstatsx? It's a very popular score tracking system for TF2, it's used on the server I play on most of the time:
»usdn.hlstatsx.com/
It tracks a ridiculous amount of stuff, and awards points in a way that actually encourages reasonable gameplay- points given to a medic for assists, ubering someone, capturing a point, capturing the intelligence, defending a point, sapping equipment, building equipment that doesn't get blown up, that sort of thing. Points rewarded scale according to the place difference between you and whoever you killed- kill the leading player and you get more points than you would for killing a nobody, which would address some of the time played versus skill issue. Please don't just use kill/death ratio though, that's just going to encourage being as cheap and defensive as possible.
So maybe a better solution could be figured out, the competition could be restarted, and the rules could be published with exact details before the competition starts? I'm still not sure exactly how things are currently being scored as things stand.

Why not make it Halo Demo???

It's free and everyone can play.

Plus I'm very good at Halo Demo.

yeah, i mean, i love TF2 and I really love support classes like medic and actually doing objectives and team play. its so satisfying when everyone works together in a match and kicks ass. if there are any changes to the rules, post em up here.

How much overhead is it for Teksavvy to have a gaming server like this running? I think it would be a lot of fun to keep it running for Teksavvy users only, and cycle through different games every month. Vegas 2, an NHL tournament here or there, some NBA...it would be a lot of fun to actually play Team Fortress 2 in a real 'team' oriented way as well.

I agree it's not really being played the way the game was meant to for maximum fun...but it would certainly be a great game to have real team play going.

So this is turning into a waste of time. Its just become kill farming, and who can log the most time on the server. The stats tracker your using isn't even meant for TF2, it doesn't track assists or anything else you should be doing in TF2, and there's no teamwork at all. I don't even have a incentive to help kill other people if I'm not sure to get the kill myself.

If today is any indication, david's going to win on the sheer fact that he's apparently got alot of free time and isn't that bad at the game.

I just signed up and I'm not connected yet. My kids are itching to play and will probably do well. How is the winner chosen? If they joined the game Thursday or Friday would thay still have a chance? Do they have to play via our teksavvy caaount or can they go to the public library computer and duke it out?

I don't think I am going to be able to get a windows machine up and running.

I already have Orange box for PS3, anybody else out there with console versions?

basically the game today has no one team playing and tons of soldiers because of kpd = win.

i started playing TF2 because teamplay was rewarded. so i wasted my time today playing medic since all i ended up doing was boosting others kpd and wasting my time before i knew it was kpd. i don't play quake and i don't care about deathmatch style games. this tournament is not a draw for anyone who was actually interested in playing team fortress as a team. pick another game next time like HL2DM is this is what is going to happen.

sorry people, but i was super pumped for this one, but sadly disappointed.
