Alternate cellphone tower sites sought in Guildwood

Bell Mobility is saying little for now on where it might build a cellphone tower in Guildwood Village.
The company signed a 20-year lease with a church in the Scarborough neighbourhood last summer for a 35-metre tower at Livingston Road and Guildwood Parkway.
The deal with Guildwood Community Presbyterian Church touched off a protest campaign when neighbours heard of it in December. Late last month, church elders surprised the opponents by asking Bell to cancel the lease.
The church has not had a response from Bell, beyond an acknowledgement the request was received, church spokesperson Bruce Morrison said this week.
The city objected to the tower, but cannot block its construction.
Jason Laszlo, a Bell spokesperson, would not confirm this week if the company will cancel the lease, calling it "a private contractual matter."

"Both Bell and Rogers representatives told the Globe and Mail that they are investing in Fibre to the Node or the closer Fibre to the Curb technology, with the last mile remaining as their DSL and cable lines.
Jason Laszlo, spokesperson for Bell Canada said this is where the bottle necking occurs in high bandwidth usage. "

Jason is a dink. I think the picture and comments show that. He's probably in hiding now. Should be fired, but weasels and liars always seem to survive.
As for the downloads, try getting an MMO download. Downloading the Age of Conan pre-order client and it's 13.4GB!
Yes, 13.4GB for the game client download, via torrent. Imagine how long that would take at 30k throttled speed? Ugh.
How many of those can I download with 60GB a month?
And there's a lot of other games that use torrents for downloading, like Age of Conan, and other popular games like World of Warcraft, which is also a huge download (over 7GB) you can get legally from Blizzard that uses torrents.
There are a ton of legit uses for torrents and other programs that are currently being throttled, not to mention the invasion of privacy.
Bell needs to be terminated. |

Maybe you should evolve from the DVD ... Maybe you will survive in business long enough to realize the only constant is change and adapting to it to make your customers happy.
Maybe you should take a hint from the year after year after year of lower sales that your customers dont want to buy overpriced DVDs or CDs anymore ? They want choice and cheap prices.
Maybe you didnt realize yet that Apple itunes movies is the new winning business model and customers are entitled to their content. Although their prices is still high they are at least in the good direction.
Good luck competing with that kind of choice, cheap prices, speed and convenience with your DVDs.
Bell and the recording industry should maybe listen to their customers, adapt to what their customers wants and find a way to profit by fulfilling those needs instead of trying to deny reality, lie, hide, lobby, sue their way through a losing battle. |

Stunning. OK, so you're cool with grabbing content for free, but to express it so openly in public almost as if it's an entitlement just f*ing astounds me.

2GB for a HD movie??? What is that guy smoking?
A normal dvd movie is ~4.3GB.
My latest 720p movie is 4.3GB and it is like this because it was made to fit on a dvd.
A 1080p movie is ~12+ GB.
Any other movie where it says HD blah blah is not high def. I need 720p or more on my 42 incher.  |

Looks like they have a new spokesman now:
"Bell says 60 GB is enough for 30 high-definition movies at 2 GB each or 168 one-hour television episodes at about 350 MB each.
"If you want to download movies, you can download a mess of them," spokesman Mark Langton says."
